here in studio, we're pleased to welcome back, i think her first time on our current tv show, terri o'neill organization for women. great to see you this morning terry. >> we're coming to you live on current tv and on your local progressive talk radio station. how important is the women vote in this election or any election? >> it is going to determine this election. i'm absolutely convinced. >> bill: really? >> women are galvanized. it has been building ever since the disaster of the 2010 elections. i think we didn't really understand the full impact of what happened in 2010. this was the first citizens united election, if you will. and tea party extremists come streaming into the united states congress. also into some key swing states. you have this extreme takeover. the house of representatives for the past two years has repeatedly proposed and passed regulation that has devastating impacts on women's access to healthcare. access to abortion care which is part of -- very important part of their ordinary reproductive healthcare. access to birth control. and then, in addition, we've seen,

for women president, terry o'neil, and neil monroe. [captioning performed by national captioning institute] host: leading to a double-digit recession, a bigger national deficits. that is our topic this morning in the opening segment of "the washington journal." guest: the sharp reductions in taxes, sure reductions in federal spending is lead to a dramatic reduction in the federal deficit trimming a by almost $500 billion next year. that would be a significant tightening of fiscal policy. it would probably lead to a recession early next here. specifically the baseline forecast showed continued modest growth in the economy during the rest of 2012. a drop in output during the first half of next year at an annual rate of nearly 3%. following that drop we anticipate the outlook will expand again in the second half of next year and beyond. the unemployment rate will rise to about 9% in the second half of next year and remain above 8% through 2014 through current law. host: the lead story deferring on the budget no longer an option. congress'

host: terry o'neill it. guest: they really are troubling. tod a.s pursuing a policy to outlaw abortion even in cases of rape or. it is exactly the same policy that called ryan is a very aggressively in favor of. paul ryan, on a number of occasions, has voiced the opinion that women live. that women cannot be trusted, that women are deceitful about their health, and whether they have been raped. for example, paul ryan was a sponsor of a bill in congress that restricted women's access to abortion care with a rape exception but only if the rate was "forcible." the reason for having this qualification on the rape exception is the belief that a woman will lie about having been raped. she has to show broken bones or cuts on her body. that's the only time to believe her when she is raped. that is deeply disrespectful of women. that is something paul ryan himself has supported. he was on the floor of the house of representatives on tape for the complaints about how women are deceitful and a lie about their health status. he does not want any exceptions to

. >> let's bring in terry o'neill. terry, thank you for coming tonight.e paul ryan's policies for women? >> you know, it's just remarkable. he is across the board dangerous for women. he is a upon sponsor of the fetal personhood bill. which would criminalize all abortion without any exceptions whatsoever. and criminalize many forms of birth control. but he is also the sponsor of a mandatory ultrasound bill whose purpose really is just to demean and humiliate women. it doesn't stop any woman from having an abortion, but it does make the process more humiliating for her. and then his medicare turning it into a voucher system, in the retirement years for women, their ability to get those mammograms, the cervical cancer screenings, other preventive health care and health care for issues that they have, that goes away under the romney/ryan plan. paul ryan is no matter what aspect of woman's life you look at, he seems to want to restrict her. >> and the ultrasound bill he's proposed nationally was the same bill macdonald got in trouble for in virginia, terry. >

joining me tonight is terry o'neill. great to have you with us again. i think paul ryan is preebl as radical as the conservatives want him to be as long as he can get away with it. what does that tell you? do you believe what paul ryan says today? or do you hold him to what he said as recently as two years ago? >> you know, honestly, ed, i think it's really hard to know where paul ryan stands given what he's been saying lately. now, we know that his history is that he opposes women's access to abortion, virtually withoutby exceptions. you played that tape of him complaining about a health exception to restrictions on abortion. what that means is that a woman with breast cancer whose birth control fails, a woman with heart disease or diabetes whose doctor said this pregnancy is making you really sick and you need to terminate the pregnancy, paul ryan wants to force that woman to continue that pregnancy. that's way out of step with the vast majority of voters want. in fact, 75% of voter, some recent poll that i heard about, over 75% of voters believe that
