christie smith is at the retirement home where it's been a long 24 hours for some people, christie. >> reporter: that's right, terry. we did speak with the ceo here. he got a little emotional when he was talking about welcoming these patients back and getting back to normal. that has started. so far, we're told, about 15 patients have been transported back that had to leave yesterday, after a small electrical fire at burlingame long term care. in all, this is new information. about 70 patients had to be relocated to facilities like the san mateo medical center for one. there was concern that all 270 might have to be moved from the skilled nursing facility yesterday. but they were able to re-establish power. many of them were able to stay on. many of them are elderly or compromise ed medically. it's a relief to see them returning. >> this is their home. they're familiar with it. the staff, the food. it's a matter of doing it in a methodical, you know, patient-specific approach. >> reporter: throughout, there were generators available and oversight, to make sure everything was smooth as it returns back to normal. the

then heading over to smith town, we have a closure out there within an accident investigation on main street. that's in both directions between hemlock lane and terry road. you can use other local streets to get around this. more weather and traffic ahead. >>> while you were sleeping, new fare hikes went into effect for nj transit riders. tracie strahan is live at penn station with a look at how it affects commuters. >> reporter: good morning. we just saw first hand while it's certainly wider inside newark penn station, the 9% increase goes into effect today. it's already getting mixed reviews. in is something that was approved back in july by new jersey transit unanimously. we saw new paper signs inside giving commuters a heads up about the fare hike today. this is the fifth increase since 2002. charge to dozens of dollars to buzz and rail fares. here's another example. from the monthly pass for the metro park to penn station rail line, it will be a $26 increase, $284 to $310. one-way bus fare from lakewood to port authority, $17.50 to $19. that's up $1.50. we went inside those long lines and talked to commuters about how this is affecting them. >
