terry. >>> well, it certainly felt overwhelming at times dealing with so many fires and trying to figure out what sparked them. tonight investigators released this new video showing what they think started the fire on bethel island this weekend. you see those sparks? they're flying from power lines as winds whip through that area. firefighters say it is clear evidence that the power lines are to blame. nbc bay area's sergio quintana is on bethel island with more for us tonight. >> reporter: well, ha vidthat v was shot by a night watchman here. the contra costa county fire protection district says it was pg&e equipment failure that triggered that fire as well as a second one in nearby oakland. about 3:00 a.m. sunday what looks like fireworks in the distance is actually power lines getting damaged by strong winds and throwing it's unfortunate this area was would not have o'to be responding to a vegetation fire that was causing this malfunction in equipment. >> reporter: the good news is fire crews responded very quickly and stopped any homes from being damaged by flames and they stopped a seco

so much for joining us. i'm anoushah rasta. >> i'm terry mcsweeney. power shut offs, bay area facing it all tonight. the kincade fire in sonoma county has grown and forcing new evacuations. take a look at this map. the purple you see here, there's a lot of it. the are areas where people have been told to get out before it's too late. more than 90,000 people have been told to evacuate in sonoma county today alone making it the largest evacuation in county history. >> here's the latest on the fire. it scorched nearly 26,000 acres and destroyed 77 buildings. now, that number includes 31 homes. firefighters say the flames are only 11% contained. >> we have a team of reporters covering this fire since it started. let's head out to nbc bay area sergio quintana live in santa rosa. sergio, you're at a hospital that's, evacuated. >> reporter: yeah, the expanded mandatory 6:00 or just after 6:00 this evening. included in that expanded evacuation zone which basically doubled the evacuation area of this county is sutter santa rosa hospital. nearly immediately after they made that announcement they started prepa
