it's just announced a national partnership with supermarket chain tesco. uk retailers like the supermarket throw away in total around 250,000 tons of u nwa nted in total around 250,000 tons of unwanted food. in a bid to change that, several supermarkets have tried working with a popular food sharing app called olio. after months of trials, tesco is rolling out the scheme across all of its supermarkets. it if food is not sold close to its expiry date, the food is handed to local olio volunteers like hannah. she takes food home to distribute, and can keep up to 10% for herself as a thank you. i love helping people, that's the first thing but the biggest concept of this is actually the reduction of waste in food. what kind of people come along to get the food? anybody can pick up, there is no discrimination, if you cannot afford it, you can have your local banker can collect through because he doesn't want to waste it. back at home, hannah sought and post the items on the app. locals can then collect number of items and free while observing social distancing.
