okay, that's texas.at a reporter would want to go to his hometown and kind of get a sense of where he grew up. so why somebody didn't think that this would be a problem that should be dealt with ahead of time really speaks volumes about the lack of experience that we are seeing. >> joe exwhat happened to him? what happened to rick perry? again, he was a guy just a few weeks ago, he was the second coming for the republican party. >> well, i wouldn't count governor rick perry out yes. of course, he has had a couple of difficult challenges the last few days vand to get by those challenges and be a tremendous advantage for mitt romney and herman cain, moving up swiftly if the polls. he he's a chance to rebound from this still. a chance to show you what karen has said. the level of scrutiny is much tougher on the presidential level than the state level. >> go ahead really quickly, karen. >> part of it, this is the kind of thing that undermines confidence from donors that is the other big race going on here. >

we got that in texas.is the energy cost is one of those things, and freeing up our domestic energy production, i will suggest to you will do two things. number one, it will get this country working, and more people put to work than anything that we can probably do, and to do that, i'm talking about removing those onerous regulations we're seeing come out of the e.p.a. and other agencies of government that are job-killers. and really free up this country. we've got centuries of energy in this country, either oil and gas or coal and wind, and allow those energy sectors to compete against each other, and that will drive down the cost of the seniors' expenses, because they're on fixed income. everything that we can do to drive down those fixed costs for our senior citizens. and frankly, there may be a lot of those individuals if they so choose that are going to go back into the workforce again, if there are jobs that are available, either part-time or full-time. so i will suggest to you again, this goes back -

in texas more exposed to it? >> well, i think so. obviously, there's a large evangelical community in the south and here in texas. it depends on what church you attend. and i think one of the reasons this makes people uncomfortable, the republican party did a very good job of making sure they had this conversation a lot of times when microphones weren't around. and they had their audience before them when they were going to have this conversation. then when you take it out to a wider audience, it starts making people pretty uncomfortable because some of us aren't exposed to it on a routine basis. the evangelical community obviously is, but not all of us belong to that community in texas. >> rick perry, is he the same guy you ran against or is he lost anything on his fastball, to use a baseball term? >> well, i think to a large degree, he's the same guy. but keep in mind, he to a large extent controlled the playing field here in texas. he got to make a lot of the rules. not only in 2006 but when he just got throug
