. >>> raging floods, heavy hail, these storms are paralyzing the texas panhandle.ok at these pictures on your screen. there are reports of people trapped in their cars. they were buried under apparently baseball size chunks of ice. look at that. just remarkable. this is land being chunked away by these raging floodwaters. potter county, texas, is what you're looking at. phenomenal video from kv11. rob marciano in the cnn weather center to tell us more about that. i am always amazed when i see waters like that and how quickly they can become flash floods. >> in that part of the country it doesn't take a whole lot of water. they got maybe an inch of rain. if you get it in less than an hour in an area that's been under a long-term drought, it just runs off, it does not sink into the hard, dry land of west texas. they've seen this now two days in a row. they may see it again today. they're see the threat for flash flooding, large hail and isolated tornadoes and damaging winds across tornado alley. tomorrow and the next day and over the weekend we see a similar threat.

louis, further to the west and oklahoma city, as well as the texas panhandle and large hail and damaging and isolated tornadoes. we are not looking at a big tornado outbreak, but you need to take the risk seriously for the straight-line winds and large hail. we saw baseball-sized hail yesterday and winds in excess of 60 to 70 miles per hour, bringing down trees, breaking car windshields and the fatality in the city of st. louis. we do have some showers and storms, bringing down heavy batches of rain in missouri. we do have flashflood warnings here because some of the storms have brought down 2 to 3 inches of rain in as little as 1 hour. so all of that water at once will cause flooding. no warnings, as far as tornadoes or severe thunderstorms, concerns with large hail or damaging winds. as we head into tomorrow, we will be watching the area south of the great lakes from ohio to ilhighway dismoi southeastern missouri and the central plains. >> a lot of water in a short amount of time. thank you? >> this wednesday will mark one year since the killing of osama bin laden. taking him out was a

and our focus right now is a smaller batch of storms that are beginning to develop north of the texas panhandlehere there's a severe thunderstorm watch now in effect for the area and moving into oklahoma and further north. and that continues into tonight where there is a larger risk for damaging winds and also, large hail. there's a slight risk for tornados, only talk ago 2% risk, but nonetheless, any of this area here in yellow tonight will have a risk for severe storms. harris? >> wow, look, that's like half the country in that green box, you've got going on there. i know that's not a technical green box, but that's huge. also there's a freeze warning in parts of the northeast, pretty late in the season at this point. >> it is. we had an early start to the growing season, and even though temperatures right now are looking pretty mild from the beautiful sunny skies, we all enjoyed across the northeast here today. we've got a very cold air, that's going to be moving in tonight. we've got a hard freeze warning in parts of new york state and even a frost advisory down the jersey shore tonight. ha

northern west virgina a second area of severe weather is expected across parts of kansas and texas panhandlend large hail and damaging winds and isolated tornados will be a concern. the major concern i hail and damaging winds. we're not looking for a major tornado outbreak expected. tomorrow, severe weather expected throughout minnesota. warm air ahead of it and that is firing up the showers and thunderstorms across the midwest and even into interior portions of the northeast and bringing in that possibility for severe weather. now there is a lot of moisture with some of these storms as well. aside from severe weather we're seeing floodin concerns. you showed the images, jamie and we're seeing portions of heavy rain in oklahoma and missouri where we have flood warnings because the storms produce as much as two to three inches of rain in o hour. that is lot of water in a short period of time producing flooding. we'll keep our eye on the storms throughout the afternoon today. jamie: we know you will. thanks. jon? david: a former top cia official is defending use of so-called enhanced interroga

temperature today in dallas was 77 degrees, but you did not have to get too far west even into the panhandle of texas to find temperatures in the 40s today. so that contrast and all that heat coming up from the gulf of mexico fumed up those big storms of happy -- fueled up those big storms. happy to tell you there have been no tornado warnings for a number of hours now. still some strong storms producing significant wind, but this whole line is trying slowly to exit east texas. meanwhile we've got snow in denver after record heat this weekend in the 80s. they've had up to 6 to 8 inches in boulder and an inch to 2 inches mostly on grassy areas. that storm is producing the snow in denver helped to fuel the thunderstorms in texas today and that line will move into louisiana and eventually mississippi tomorrow. we'll have to watch to see if it's able to produce morrow take thing storms. tonight we -- more rotating storms. tonight we have clouds building in later. as the clouds thicken we'll see temperatures stay mild. showers and storms missed us to our south and west. tomorrow it looks like they might m

texas today. dangerous storms pounded the panhandle yesterday, golf ball sized hail.orrential downpours caused at least one river to overflow its banks. floodwaters shutting down more than one highway. at one point a tornado watch was issued. no major damage though ultimately reported. other parts of the country could see severe weather today as those storms head east. meteorologist janice dean has details from the fox weather center. jd. >> tornado alley, right up the alley we'll see the potential for severe weather not only today but into tomorrow and saturday. we're watching moisture streaming in across the west and we're also watching again that potential for severe weather across areas of texas, oklahoma, up towards kansas. so the central and southern high plains that's the area we're going to keep a close watch over, for the next several hours into the overnight as the storm progresses eastward. so there's our setup. we have our cold front. there's our jet stream, the warm front and that dry line that kind of acts as a lifting mechanism. it separates the dry des
