michigan congressman thaddeus mccotter joins us, the chairman of the republican house policy committee and a member of the house financial services committee. good morning, congressman, always good to see you. >> good morning, eric, nice to see you. >> eric: do you think there will be a vote in the house of representatives and at least they'll get it done. >> we'll be unfortunate if they tried and members of their own party the blue dogs and conservative democrats don't feel the bill as presently drafted is in the best interest of the country and i think they are willing to work with republicans to come up with a better alternative and that remains to be seen whether the democratic leadership in the house will share that opinion. >> eric: what has gone wrong? look, the president leads the part. and the democrats can pass it and they have the magic number 60 in the senate, filibuster proof and cannot get it done. >> well, eric people are elected by district and by state and even though we run as members of parties, the parties have broad differences of opinion on many issues, within the

thaddeus mccotter introduced the bill. this bill had to go to a legislative council to get drafted, and it's got seven whereas clauses in it. it ends with a call upon the president to retract his initial public remarks and apologize to the cambridge police. why do you think it's necessary to go to all this even though we have this beer party set up for thursday night? >> well, one, i think you overestimate the time it took me in my garage to write it and to get it to the council to slap the title of house resolution on it. it took very little time. certainly a lot less time than this administration has spent on this issue over the past several days. i think it's very important that the principle remain in place. as the president announced himself, he had a friend involved who he was biased to. he didn't have a complete grasp of the facts, and nevertheless he prejudged a private citizen, officer crowley's actions as being inappropriate. then he reaffirmed it two days later. i don't think the president should have that type

yield such time as he may consume to the chairman of the house republican policy committee, thaddeus mccotter of michigan. mr. mccotter: i thank the gentleman from tennessee. when the cap and tax national energy tax bill was passed from the house, the congress went on a break. and when people went home on a break they find out how much the american people did not like the cap and tax bill that this house passed. in fact, i remember being home, i'm sure a lot of members had this moment, both people who voted for it and voted against it, you go in the grocery store, somebody might recognize you. they look around and they'd walk up and say, are you my representative? and you would say yes and they'd they'd look around again and say, dude, this is crazy. this cap and tax is crazy. and i would just say, yes, it is. and i'd say, especially in michigan, our state where we have a 15.2% unemployment rate. where we are a manufacturing giant now in difficult times. why the federal government would make it harder to manufacture in the united states, why we would be but a senate vote and a presidential si
