we went for a year and my plan was to get out of the air force after that. i was going to go back to san antonio, finish my masters degree where i been going to st. mary's university at night. get out of the air force and become a civilian for national security agency. i got sort of plucked out and was meant toward by some senior officers that made all the difference in the world for my life. of course, when i retired from active duty in 1995, never figuring out whatever come to the government. then i did get a call in late summer 2001 to come back to the government to be the director for national imagery and mapping agency since morphed into the geospatial intelligence agency. by mr. rumsfeld after five years, i was out about three months and got a phone call from secretary of defense gates who asked me if i would finish the bush term, about 19 months as under secretary of defense for intelligence at the pentagon. that turned into 3 and a half years and then after that i was asked to take on the job as director of national intelligence. none of this was plan
