it is owned and operated by the city of alexandria. today we will look at the -leadbeater apothecary museum and we will learn about its history. alexandria in the 1790's is a booming economy. a lot of new construction in town, a lot of people are starting to move to the city. edward stabler moves from leesburg to alexandria in 1792 and he opens a small shop a couple of doors down from here today. he moved to this location in 1805 and incorporates the building next door into his business and uses that as his warehouse. an apothecary, in this time period was where people went to essentially see the doctor. they went to an apothecary. they would tell them what was wrong and they would mix up something to cure what ails them. in the 18th century, doctors were trained generally by university. they would go through a formal set of courses to learn their practice and trade. they would often go and not have their own practice the way we think of that today where we go to doctor's office, they would go to your house. because they are performing

the airbus a320 was flying from alexandria, cairo -- to, rather, cairo when an unknown number of hijackers took control of the jet and flew it to the island of cyprus. holly williams is headed there. she joins us now on the phone. holly, good were monmorning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. we're seeing video that appears to show at least some of the passengers from that hijacked plane being released on the the plane landed there just before 9:00 local time. as to how many passengers have been released, there is not much clarity at this point. local media in cyprus is saying that the hijacker or hijackers agreed to release all the women and children on board. they're saying that 30 to 40 people have been released. other media is reporting that 56 people have been released. we've also heard this morning saying that everyone on board has been released with the exception of the cabin crew and four to five passengers. the reuters news agency is reporting that there were ten american citizens and eight british citizens on board. we can't ind pendly confirm this at this point, but we're w

the egypt air flight was traveling from alexandria to cairo after being forced to land in cyprus. there were conflicting reports about how many people were on board. with some officials saying 55, while others reported 81. most of the passengers have been released. and now we're hearing details about the hijacker's motive. nbc's alistair jameson joins us from london. what can you tell us? >> good morning, dara. this was a routine flight, a short trip from alexandria to cairo. the flight takes around 30 minutes. some point in that flight one of the passengers on board told the flight clue crue he had explosives on, a suicide vest and the flight was diverted across the mediterranean and landed at larnaca. once on the ground, negotiations began to release almost all of the passengers. it's still not clear what motives lay behind this hijacking. the cyprus president said it's nothing to do with terrorism and a high-level source told nbc news that the hijacker's motives seem to be a personal matter involving a woman and the hijacker asked to speak to someone, possibly his ex-wife. what
