i was pleased to read in the paper that the american planning association yesterday nominated the ferry building and its open spaces as one of the 10 great public spaces of america for 2010. this goes hand in hand with north beach having been two years ago nominated one of the great neighborhoods in the united states. i think we have two down and a couple to go and i am really happy about this. commissioner antonini: for those of you who are old enough to remember the 1950's and early '60s in san francisco, it was a city that was noted for its style, its manners, it's class, and its cleanliness. lately, in the national press, which are pointed out unfairly as being a place that is characterized sometimes by rude and inappropriate behavior and perhaps sometimes being undisciplined. i am not sure that is fair. but i was impressed with our san francisco giants after their win over the braves, when they stayed on the field and were respectful of bobby cox, who had been a manager for 33 years and spent his whole life in baseball. his moment was much more important than their triumph in terms
