i would like to take the americans conservative union for this. ch of us has our unique story as to how we became conservative. i'm honored to share mine with you. i did grow up in the political home. i actually became a conservative when i was a college student at the university of illinois. i recognize that college is not the place where most people become conservatives. i was studying political science in american history. i had opportunity to study our nations foundational documents for myself. the constitution. the declaration of independence. the federalist papers. i began to compare our country and our freedom with countries where the government has more centralized power. it quickly became apparent to me that those countries were left prosperous. civil liberties are not protected. countries like us, the country is more prosperous economically. civil liberties are respected. i began to marvel at the genius of our constitution. i wasn't seeking to find a political philosophy. all of a sudden i realized i had one. i was a conservative. a const
