the rubio-schumer amnesty bill passed the u.s. senate with a big margin. it was headed to the house, and it was going to pass house republican leadership. john boehner intended to take up that rubio-schumer amnesty bill and pass it with the votes of all the democrats. it was going to be republican leadership, plus the democrats overruling about 200 house republicans. you want to know how close it as surpassing, ask steve king, louie gohmert, just how close republican leadership was to jamming this through with all the democrats. now, that once again was a time for choosing. there are candidates in the republican race for the president who talk about mmigration an awful lot. the only question we should ask as voters is in 2013, when the fight was being waged, where were you? i can tell you it was about to pass, and then a handful of leaders, including jeff sessions and including especially iowa's own, the relentless steve king stood and fought it. define amnesty? >> the ad is deceitful, actually talks about cap and trade, it stops my statement right when i start explaining that i'm against cap and trade and big government mandates. the gang of eight was a bill that was -- that's not -- that was dealt with three years ago as an effort to fix our immigration laws. it was the best that could be done in a senate controlled by harry reid at the time. would take it up and make it better, but it was a way to start that. in the absence of progress that's how barack obama has now forced on america not one but two unconstitutional executive orders that seek to actually legalize people here with no now, that's not the way we're going to do it when i'm president. when i'm president, when i'm the nominee, we're going to keep our majority in the house and senate and we're going to pass first and foremost immigration laws that secure our border. and until that is in place, anything else. ten years. the american people we do not have the political support to do it a
