this is today in the bay. good morning to you. on this wednesday, i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. let's get right to our top story. multiple wildfires now burning in southern california. that includes the palisades fire, which is exploding in size after starting yesterday morning. today in the bay's kris sanchez is in our newsroom this morning monitoring the damage and the fallout. and, kris, this has been a powerful round of santa ana winds. yeah. so if you're unfamiliar, santa ana winds are much likehe diablo winds that we get up here. you know, they are dry and they are strong. and we know also that more firefighters from the bay area took off overnight for southern california to try to help in that firefight. the alameda county strike team is now joining oakland hayward, fremont firefighters. and while they had a sleepless night, so too did governor newsom, who at 130 this morning announced we are working vigorously to ensure maximum support for firefighting efforts in los angeles. now that includes the hurst fire,

she lives here in the east bay. she was headed down to southern california to visit her friend when the fires broke out. and sadly, she learned that her friend lost her home. so ginger this weekend organized a donation drive here in pleasanton to help out her friend and others impacted by those devastating wildfires in los angeles. faith and other volunteers. they filled a truck with clothes, water, even pet food to be driven down south later today. it's a matter of solidarity and knowing that we're in it together, everybody can feel it. we've had wildfires out here. we know how terrifying it is. so it's really a matter of putting our priorities order, working together to solve these problems and then moving together to a better future. further north of pleasanton in danville, megan stern, she has a cousin who lost her home in the fire. so megan put out the word to friends for help, and the response was overwhelming. people donated all sorts of things, like toiletries from megan's cousin and other people hurt by the

for basically the entirety of the bay area. cloud coverage that is insulating us, and the insulation acts like a blanket overnight and keeps temperatures mild. the reason we're seeing all the cloud coverage is because of that very large storm system that has arrived. it is bringing a lot of activity up to the pacific northwest and just beginning to impact us in the bay area. you can see the tail end of that storm system making its way towards the bay area. you can see that swirly whirl of the low pressure system just off the coast of canada. we're going to continue to see it again, impacting us not much longer than today. it is a thin line of moisture that is going to move through and after that, not too much activity is expect the into this weekend. that's really great news. any outdoor plans and umbrella will be necessary. if you can, move those outdoor plans indoors, especially for this morning. we're expecting the lighter showers to continue to get heavier and heavier. this line of rain will be the heaviest as it moves acros

here are some live pictures from here in the bay area and also up in the mountains. mount tam is showing you what you're going to have to deal with tomorrow morning, which is some fog and it is dropping visibility. half moon bay right now, four miles, three miles in livermore. so be careful as we look at live doppler seven. there are a couple of sprinkles still dotting our radar. 40s on those temperatures and 50s it is going to be a chilly night. a beautiful view from emeryville. overnight areas of fog and they'll be dense in patches this weekend. large breaking waves and dry pattern setting up well into next week with sunnier and milder weather tomorrow morning. we begin with 30s and 40s. watch out for the fog. tomorrow afternoon you'll see a mix of sun and high clouds. 50s for your highs and then in the evening it gets cool once again. so 48 to 44 degrees in half moon bay, 37. in napa and livermore the chill will be with you. 38 in santa rosa, 44 in san jose and 40s for oakland and san francisco. tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at 50s for the entire region. a cou

let's get you here to the south bay. we're at 49 degrees to start. 48 over the tri-valley, san francisco. dropping down to 50 and over the east bay 47. daytime highs for tomorrow will be right about where we should be this time of year. that will put us to 57 in los g gatos. may have you keepig the jacket here all day long for some of the bay area 60 in san jose winds not that gusty. just out of the northwest here at six across the east bay 56. martinez 57, livermore 58 in antioch and 58 here in hayward. double fives up towards daly city. then you get down to palo alto, los gatos, atherton. temperatures will be in the upper 50s. san francisco 58, in downtown. but maybe you're venturing towards the beaches. we have some mid 50s, but be carefulul. there is going to be some strong surf, so please stay away from that water tomorrow. it's just going to be real dangerous. 58 here in napa down towards mill valley. 59 so i really think we've got some smooth sailing this weekend. sunday should offer us more in the way of sunshine.

we're watching in the bay area tonight across some of the north bay hills. as you're about to see, gusts tonight could be above 50mph. we're seeing that right now close to mount saint helena, 49 degrees in san jose. not much wind. eventually, we'll see lows dropping closer to 40 around san jose. and it's already 40 degrees in dublin. this is one of the locations over the next few nights and mornings, could be waking up to some patchy frost and temperatures in the 30s. 48 degrees in san rafael. not much wind there or in san francisco as you can see. if the mirror like reflection off the bay pretty view, 51 degrees, fog and cloud fre for now. and look how chilly temperatures have dropped. napa and danville into the 30s. we've had the dry offshore wind last couple of days. again, it's the moisture and the clouds that are in the air at night, which kind of act like a blanket. they kindf keep the temperatures up. you take that away. now we cool off rather quickly, but not as cold where the winds are ongoing. winds out of the northeast at 33mph at mount saint hele

the bay area connection. overnight, a man drove a pickup truck through bourbon street in new orleans, killing 15 people and wounding dozens more. hours later, someone drove a cyber truck to the trump hotel in las vegas, where it exploded. both of the vehicles were rented through the same app. now the app is called turo and the headquarters are in san francisco. today, abc7 news went by the offices on new montgomery street, and turo is like the vehicle version of airbnb. car owners list their vehicles for rent. they're. authorities say a driver rented a tesla cybertruck in colorado and drove it to las vegas, where it exploded into a fireball outside the trump hotel. that vehicle was loaded with fireworks. the driver was killed and seven bystanders suffered minor injuries. investigators say they have not found any clear connection to isis or the possible terrorist attack in new orleans. now, the pickup truck used in the new orleans attack was also rented through turo. the fbi is studying videos. the suspect appe

but there is a little that will diffuse into the bay area specially the south bay at points today. most of the weekend, though, in north wind kicks into gear and that's going to really kick out a lot of that smoke. so we're not getting a direct hit from that smoke. in fact, just the opposite for the most part, our winds are working in our favor and trying to keep it out of our region. not a lot of wind today, 30 mile per hour gusts in the mountains com or at the surface. our next low. that will break off from the jet and traverse its way just to the east of us is going to result in an uptick in winds again into early next week. this dry offshore wind won't be as significant as that last wind event was. but monday and tuesday are days to watch for socal neighbors and here at home as well. our temperatures have been way warmer than average. in fact, so warm. we've been seeing records broken across the bay yesterday. redwood city got up to 75 degrees. breaking the record today. i'm going to keep you in the 60's. temperatures in the south bay 70's, san jose at 72 campbell, right at 70 d

i want you to take a look all throughout the bay area. notice how we're sitting in the upper 60s throughout most of the bay. well above average for the full-time of year. but here's what's happening for us. extending into the afternoon hours today, and into the early morning hours tomorrow, actually, we're under a first alert weather day due to the wind advisory. they're pushing offshore so this is going to be dry condensed air continuing to push offshore into the afternoon hours today. which luckily does clear up that dense fog but at the same time, of course, it does make it a little bit challenging to get out there on the roads this morning. lasting into this afternoon for the commutes. so here's what we have right now. anywhere up to around 30-mile-per-hour winds currently just off into the inland areas. we advance the clock all the way into this afternoon and a similar trend and that stays consistent into the evening hours tonight. so before you leave the door today, and you are heading off to work or school, and you have the outdoor
