the whole bay area is set to get wet. great news. thanks for joining us on kron 4 news at 5 everybody. i'm grant lotus and i'm vicki liviakis over the next few days. part of the bay area could get a few inches of rain bringing some much needed relief, of course, from the drought and the wildfire conditions. our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow joins us now with. >> what we can expect. boy, oh, boy. this is huge. you know, this is probably the most impressive set of storms i've seen in october my career with i'm pretty old says so that's giving you an idea and no, it doesn't look very, very impressive. so. >> the first few storms not going to be gigantic. it's going to be wet. but we'll see that rain coming through. but this one that we're looking at possibly coming in over the weekend. that is some serious stuff. so this is kind of the opening round here. you see the rain begin to move in to parts of northern california. the pacific northwest. finally the storm door has opened up and it looks like it's going to stay that way for so

for the southern half of the bay area. it will be a soaking rain for the north bay through the first half of the day and continues into the afternoon as the rain continues to make its way farther and farther to the south. freezing the maps here at 5:00, a lot of rain for much of the bay area, if you head to the 9ers game it might not be raining at kick off at 5:20. the rain will move in during the game and it will be breezy throughout the game as well. it will be a mess. by 8:00 in the evening the entire bay area is covered in moderate to heavy rainfall. that will continue into the late evening and early overnight. back edge of the rain will drop across the bay area as we head towards sunrise on monday morning but still plenty of rain for the monday morning commute. that finally departs heading towards midday and a little bit of a break in the action for the rain to soak in by monday afternoon and evening. a descent amount of rain. focus on the north bay, first, we are talking about future cast numbers here in the 5-8 inch

the north bay 36 mile an hour gusts. the berkeley hills 36 mile an hour gust mission peak to 49 miles per hour and it has been gusty all around the bay areantinue to do so over the next 24 hours. in we're watching red flag warnings up across the peaks in the north bay. much of the east bay expecting some strong gusty winds over the next 24 hours. some of those gusts could exceed 60 maybe 70 miles per hour across some of the higher peaks. the areas shaded in brown. we've actually got a high wind watch in effect for that period. as well as we're expecting some very strong gusty winds. now these winds not only in the north and the east bay. the now expected to extend all the way down into the santa cruz mountains. so some dangerous fire conditions out there. now, here's the latest forecast as we take you through time here. the current conditions and you can see the strong offshore wind that north northeasterly wind developing around the bay area overnight tonight, very blustery over the north bay hills. then as we take you through the day tomorrow. still stay gusty almost another in polls right toward the middle of the day tomorrow and then

the north bay. here we are, 8:00 on tuesday evening. then spreading across the rest of the bay area as we go into early wednesday morning. then we are still left behind with the off and on showers throughout the day on wednesday into thursday, possibly into friday as well. some of our computer models are showing the potential that we could measure decent amounts of rain. take a look at this one. it shows santa rosa could get close to an inch of rain or maybe over an inch of rain. napa reaching three quarters of an inch of rain, and we are still keeping in mind we need about two inches of rain for the month of october in the north bay to reach our normal amount, but we could go well above what we normally see heading toward the end of the month. yes, this is a look at one of the computer models for snow in the sierra. 33 inches in king vail. that would be amazing. maybe a nice little start to our ski season there as well. taking a look at our temperatures over the next few days, it does stay cool and we will see the showers off and on, and starting on tuesday night into wednesday, of

bulk of the rain moving in during the day on sunday, starting in the north bay, with the heaviest falling to the northern half of the bay area and farther south. these two long-range models agree on that scenario. we're talking about an inch or two of rain just out of that system. a full-fledged at moss firic river. temperatures dropping down to the mid-to-upper 50s, not much cooler than they are right now. should reach the mid-to-upper 60s tomorrow around the bay. low 70s inland and the east way and the santa clara valley. temperatures drop back on friday as the cooler side of the storm system takes over. again, a break in the action friday afternoon, friday night, and the first half of the day on saturday, but then the heavier rain returns saturday night, and especially sunday d underneath with lingering showers possible into tuesday. the next dry day doesn't look- like it's going to arrive until wednesday. that is week from today. so many rain chances between now and then. i'll have another look at the radar coming up at 6:00. >>> also new at 6:00, san francisco's mayor has some harsh words in response to in-n- out's refu
