the latest numbers out of the bay area seem to show the pandemic is not done with us. as the masks come off and restrictions fall covid infections rise in the bay area. in fact infections have risen more than 160% here in a month. experts say our return to normal may be deceiving. >> you know its sort of luling us into not much is happening. when we look back over the last four weeks we have seen a very significant increase in the number of cases. >> while hospitalizations have also ticked up they are still lower than during the height of the delta surge and at the health care system should prepare for another possible surge now while hospitalization rates are still manageable. >> my feeling is the more we can keep the case rate down the more we can keep hospital beds free to take care of those who need them. >> san francisco now has one of the highest infection rates in california and the test positive rate of 7.9% driven by the new subvariant. the possibility of a new deadlier variant is a big concern. >> if a new variant comes that is very transmiss ib le and can mak

brian, parts of the bay area still under a red flag warning? >> that's way up in the north and the east parts of the bay area, there are red flag warnings. the wind watches have expired because the winds are easing up. that's good news. temperatures came down today. so that's good news. but it is going to continue warm into the weekend ahead, as you'll see in a minute. but first, the wind gusts are a problem with mount saint helena. in the past 24 hours, it's windy atop mount diablo. to interest rest of the bay area, winds are easing up. we're only in the 15 to 30-miles per hour. windier along the shoreline. but in the futurecast, this is tomorrow morning, you see in some places we're into the single digits. and it's a sea breeze. so that's a nice moist direction, really. so for the weekend, must remain ever vigilant. but nevertheless, things are looking good in terms of temperatures. they're coming down. humidities are slightly going up. but that's going change, and the winds are easing up as well. we'll have more in the forecast in a few minut

the road weis right now. it is a little bit of a breezy start to your day on some of our bay area bridges. wind advisories in effect for the bay bridge as well as the san mateo bridge and a live look at the san mateo bridge, they've got those cms signs illuminated but no brake lights or backups. hopefully things will be seamless for the next hour or so until the morning commute gets under way. bay bridge toll plaza metering lights are off, easy ride as you head into san francisco. right now no delays there and so far so good on the golden gate bridge, a nice start to your ride out of marin county, if you're headed into san francisco. no delays in the south bay and we see things get crowded for that altamont pass ride as you work your way westbound 580 toward 680. >>> the city of buffalo, new york, continues to grieve for the ten people killed when a gunman opened fire at a supermarket. >> we're not just hurting, we're angry. we're mad. this shouldn't have happened. there's nothing to take away the pain, take away the hole in our hearts, because part of us is gone, senselessly taken from us

it feels like summer in some parts of the bay area. i want to check the forecast. >> good thing about the microclimate. not everyone is going to have intense heat we are going to feel over the inland areas. let's take a live look outside it while the creek where it is all clear and sunny and not too bad. take a look at the trend over the next couple of hours. 76 degrees right now. in the next hour, 82 as you head out for lunch. if you are going on a little bit later in the afternoon it is going to reach into the low 90s. we will see temperatures keeping fair then starting to go back down. we take a look at the overall temperatures, 30 degrees warmer right now than it was 24 hours ago in santa rosa and even warmer in morgan hill. as you get ready to head out once again, temperatures are going to be heating up quickly, 92 in santa rosa. the record is 90 degrees. we are not supposed to be this warm this early in the season. we see a lot of these temperatures spiking around the bay area. then look at san francisco. it will reach up to 75 to

this is the next system that has better aim and the possibility to bring light rain to the bay area on sunday. watch the line get dragged through pretty much the north bay, the heart of the bay and right through the middle of the day and a lot of disagreement on the forecast models as far as how it comes together with rain. i do not think the rain is the biggest impact. if the rain comes is fairly light, it doesn't add up to a whole lot. what you will notice for mother's day is it will be cooler and breezy. by saturday afternoon and evening, we will possibly be seeing guests up to 25 or 30 miles per hour areawide. breezy saturday evening, sunday the system passes through and it will be breezy and cool. maybe light rain did none look significant in terms of wind and rain. this isn't a blockbuster storm but still more than what we've had around here for a while that lingers into monday. by the time we get it early next week, or the middle next week, things will warm up. a lot to watch over the next few days were still looking at friday morning's commute gianna. >> mobile five is out and

inland parts of the bay area and around the bay should see plenty of sunshine.peratures are going to warm up quickly. we're going to end up 5 to 10 degrees above average around the bay. closer to a dozen degrees above normal farther inland, which puts the inland temperatures well into the 80s. not so much along the coast. again, the fog is going to be hanging out nearby. the onshore breeze is going to keep you in the low 60s for highs. that's not bad for the middle of may. upper 70s and low 80s around the south end of the bay and down the peninsula. one range of hills makes a big difference, 20-degree swing there. temperatures in the mid to upper 80s in the santa clara valley. 85 in san jose. 87 for morgan hill. lily hitti n brentwood.ley. stens and t m 70saye mperuresstly 80 farther inland, warmer temperatures. windsor and st. helena close to 90 degrees. if you're going to be heading out to run bay to breakers sunday morning, or observe and just maybe morbidly curious has to scantily clad runners will fair with the temperatures, it'll be cool. fog sunday mornin
