the south bay city remains the deadliest in the bay area for pedestrians. thanks for joining us tonight at 6. i'm noelle bellow. i'm ken wayne. it is san jose's 27th traffic deaths this year. but that number, the number that really stands out is the age of the thai child who was killed, not even 6 months old. >> kron four's gayle ong joins us now live from san jose with the latest kale. >> well, can i know? well, we're told a mother was crossing the street with her 2 young children when they were hit. this all happening late last night around 11, 40. and very tragic as you can imagine else, according to san jose police, a crash happened at the intersection of south king road in ocala avenue in east san jose. police say the mother and her children were crossing the street outside the marked crosswalk when they were hit by a chevy tahoe. the driver remained at the scene, but that infant died on the scene. the mother and her other young child were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive their injuries. investigators closed the streets off for several

you're watching kron. 4 news known. >> now at 9, another hot one across the bay area. today, residents getting outside to enjoy the sunshine. of course, the warm temperatures. but some areas got pretty hot, reaching the triple digits today. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 9. i'm dan thorn kron 4 meteorologist mabrisa rodriguez. she's in the weather center and she's going to give us a look the temperatures and look at the forecast. a recent. yeah, let's take a look at just how hot it got today. it's unbelievable. but we did not break any records temperature wise, but >> those of you in livermore, certainly felt like it 105 degrees. 17 degrees above average when you should be in 88 degree range in concord, 102 degrees in santa rosa. also hitting that century mark with temperatures, 17 degrees above average when you should be in the mid 80's. so scorching hot inland. but downtown san francisco and most of the bay area coastline, no one complaining of the mild temperatures. 72 degrees, 6 degrees above average when we should be in the mid 60's this time of year. so

before we get to the tom stories, moments ago a heat advisory went into effect in parts of the bay area begin with meteorologist kari hall. and this just went into place, right? >> right. this is for the interior valleys across parts of the bay area. i want to show you a map so you know whether or not you're included. this will be in effect from now through 11:00 on sunday as our temperatures heat up anywhere from 90 degrees to 104. but we're also going to see lower humidity and increased fire danger, so during these hottest hours of the day, make sure you're drinking lots of water and taking care of yourself as well as pets. take a look at the range in temperatures here. we're still in the 50s in san francisco, but when you go to the north bay, it's in the upper 70s. and the farther you go inland, the hotter it is already at this hour. we're at 82 in martinez and 91 in vacaville. we're already seeing some low 80s in san martin. when you compare the temperatures now to yesterday at this time, it's up to 16 degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday, so the heat is ramping up. we're also

get the east bay gives lama county down to parts of the south bay. but the rest, the bay area got enough of the sea breeze to keep you much cooler. that being said, you can see on the temperatures here to 59 degrees in pacifica. we had a double. and how about 90 so big difference? there are 100 to one in brentwood 100 right now in vacaville and much comfortable. 72 in the timber on. but that fog, yep, into the monterey bay. right now, you can just see a patch hanging on to the 7 tail county coastline. but by tomorrow afternoon, triple digits going to be much more common going to see that car possibly live more antioch, more inside the bay. much more comfortable. you got some 70's 80's and 50's 60's along the coastline. so kind of how this is breaking down. yeah, we're talking heat wave but not a heat wave for everybody along the coastline. people what heat wave. it's nice out here. 50's 60's along the coastline with that patchy fog. it felt pretty nice outside today. i got a little bit of sun took advantage of the lates. you know, the late schedule. it's got a little sun. yes,

there are now 120 cameras installed in the bay area. there are a long 85, 80, 80 and highway 4 in the east bay. but there currently not being used even when there technically up and running. apparently some of the drivers we talked to today say they do not think the cameras will make enough of a difference. >> cameras in stores, those cameras on the street corners. there's cameras everywhere in the people not concerned about cameras. >> don't know what the solution is, but it needs to be a solution because people are getting hurt and the children i concur. >> in addition to the cameras, the chp established a highway violence taskforce. it's aimed identifying problem areas, including the locations days and times of the shootings. to try to know where they need their resources. most. those highway cameras are not the only project in the works. several cities in the bay area may soon be getting cameras. that would eventually send you a bill if you're caught speeding on streets can force theresa reports. >> people are dying and these are peo

looking at more of that here from the north bay down to the south bay. >> as the fire still burns, the smoke is going to keep drifting. are there parts of the bay area that have it worse than others? >> i do think those inland valleys. it's going to get trapped in there again. north bay, unhealthy for sensitive groups along with the east bay and the south bay. folks need to watch it if they have respiratory problems. near the coast and the bay, we'll still get that ocean breeze so it looks pretty good across the coast and also the bay. but on top of that, we've got those hot temperatures to deal with as we head into this weekend. >> what temperatures are we going to see? >> it's not going to be as hot as we saw in the last heat event. we're looking at 90 to 104. you've got to head out to inland, contra costa, alameda counties where those heat advisories are in effect. we'll see low humidity. but there's going to be spots to escape the heat. you go anywhere near the bay, the coast, even parts of the north bay, and it's going to be comfortable. we'll have 60s, 70s, and also 80s. yes, it's hot. it's only a two-day event. >> quick. >> we'll be able to g

the bay area air quality management district says smoke from what's being called. the flat fire is expected to drift here into the bay area that led to an air quality advisory today. and you might see hazy skies, even smell smoke, especially in the higher elevations of the north bay east bay and santa clara county. >> air quality is not expected to reach an unhealthy level, but anyone who smell smoke is advised to stay indoors as much as possible and close the windows. >> for more on that, let's head on over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow. yeah, track of this fire last couple of days and every time the wind kind switches direction blows our way. we start to see some of that smoke heading our direction. saw some of that today. a little hazy out there right now in the smoke. well, the fire continues to burn until the fire goes out. we're going have some issues with that. as long as we start to get more of a northerly component, that's what we've had today. that smoke from that fire working its way in toward crescent city and your weekend down the coastline, ev

the bay area. >> kind of breaking down where along the coastline. yeah, you're keeping things nice and cool 50's and 60's coast side not as bad inside the bay, although the santa clara valley going to be hot. but then you get the east bay and part of the north and those temperatures going to sizzle. but not only there around the state expect we've got an excessive heat warning as you head through the central valley in california down to bakersfield to get the vice elliott fresno, expecting some of those temperatures, a 10708 degrees that extending down to palm springs. of course, we could be talking about 110 plus and some of those areas. so if you plan on anywhere around california except for the coastline, get ready for that heat. temperatures for tomorrow. not bad in the monterey bay. how about that? 62 degrees in carmel, 60 in moderate see 78 degrees in carmel valley, southern california. not that bad near the coastline. 64 long beach jump to pasadena gets hot at 91 94 degrees in pomona in the high country. beautiful time to travel up there. but

. >> a nightmare for drivers across the bay area. an incident shutting down the bridge for hours. people trying to get around the closure found themselves sitting in gridlock in san francisco as well as the north bay. reports of a man running on the bridge having a mental health crisis. all lanes are closed and the eastbound direction as the chp works to resolve the situation. it has created a backup not only nears a bridge but in san francisco as well as people try to find different ways to get to the east bay. let's get to lena howland who is on the scene. she caught up with frustrated drivers, i can imagine you were cut up and all that gridlock. -- caught up in all that gridlock. reporter: this bridge has been shut down for 10 hours and counting. those are the eastbound lanes of the bridge. chp officers have been driving around this area next to the roadblock using their loudspeakers, urging drivers to leave. they say there's no point in waiting as there no estimated time of reopening the bridge. this has caused a bit of a traffic nightmare for drivers across most of the bay are

the bay shoreline. low to mid 90's inland. this is our excessive heat watch from 11:00 a.m. friday to 8:00 p.m. sunday for all the bay areabay shoreline and the coast. high temperatures, upper 90's to near 110 degrees. we have a significant increase in the risk of heat-related illness. while we have a heat watch, it is a heat warning for most of the remainder of the state. the central valley to the interior sections of southern california. here is the accuweather 7-day forecast. after a seasonal range of highs tomorrow we can expect inland highs to top out at about 100 degrees friday. hundred two 100 for saturday and sunday -- 102 to and sunday. tuesday and wednesday we get cooling and much more comfortable and much safer weather pattern. karina: the 104 is pretty dangerous. thank you. dan: things got real today for recruits hoping to become members of the valeo fire department. for the first time the recruits faced a live fire situation with flames and smoke inside a new state-of-the-art training facility in hayward. >> nothing more of an adrenaline rush to enter through the door. you cannot see anything but you are just

air quality was okay around the bay area today. we have yellow dots at the southern end of the bay and around the santa clara valley. these might be lingering effects of fire word smoke , specifically around the spots that had moderate air quality today. but everybody should be in the green thursday, friday and into saturday. if you are anxious for a return to more typical summertime temperatures, you do not have to wait too long. the outlook shows the trend getting closer to the bay area . pass the middle of the month it looks like a weak signal towards above normal temperatures returning to much of california. it is speculative but it looks like it might actually feel like july when we get to that point in the season. looking down towards pier 39, the camera is shaking around too much. 60s around the bay. mostly 70s and low 80s. nice weather for fourth of july. we will see the fog spreading inland late tonight after the fireworks displays are done. clear skies overhead for the evening hours before the fog takes over later tonight.
