the bay bridge, for example. you do see busy traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza. but the good thing is it's nothing unusual about it. there are no crashes on the span and it looks good. same for the san mateo bridge. yes, it's crowded, but it looks pretty, pretty much within the realm of normal. we've been looking at 680 southbound and that's different, though. we had a crash on 680 getting out of the sunol area, heading down to san jose. so if that is your commute, you need a extra time on southbound 680, the crash, no injuries right near andrade road though. and it's also affecting vallecitos road. some people may opt for using 880 south and that is pretty crowded from hayward getting down to fremont 718. what about today's weather? let's bring steve back in. all right, sal, we'll start up where the fires are, southern oregon, northwest california. so when the wind turns northerly, that has ushered in that smoke layer yesterday, almost all summer long, we've had a west or southwest wind, very little fire activity or any smoke. we almost made it the entire summer

let's get you out on the roads with a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, that has been light so we can see at the bay bridge toll plaza there is not a lot of cars out on the roads. so we will have a look at weather and traffic coming up in a few minutes. >>> september is childhood cancer awareness month, and one bay area family is hoping to make a difference in the lives of young patients. according to the national pediatric cancer foundation, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day. cancer is the number one cause of death by disease among children, and only 4% of government funded cancer research is directed toward treating childhood cancer. back in 2019, enzo keller was diagnosed with lymphoma, an aggressive non-hodgkin's lymphoma. fortunately he was able to get treatment and his cancer is in remission. his parents started the enzo and me pediatric cancer foundation. the goal is to fund pediatric research to find better treatments and cures for children. his parents tell us how hard that experience was. >> this is probably most parents, one of their worst nightmares. s

the guadalupe bridge to. time now is 708 and we do have bigger backups in the east bay this morning due to some problems. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. there's nothing wrong with this backup. however i will say that traffic is going to be backed up all the way out to the maze we were behind because we had several crashes on 24 and they've been cleared up and things are recovering. but people were set back and they're late. traffic is slow all the way across the bridge. let's talk about another part of the east bay that would be 880. there was a crash in industrial. again, that's cleared up. we're beginning to see some improvement here. there's still a little bit slower than usual traffic on 880 and on 680, we also had an earlier crash there. we haven't seen a lot of slowing in the south bay for the silicon valley just yet. there's a little bit of it here. as i scroll down to the area on 101. but still, i think you can get a good commute. however northbound 280 i'm sorry, northbound 85 pardon me, coming up to cupertino. so coming up on 280, there's a crash there. so if you're on 85, all of a sudden you're used to smooth sailing. well

open through the carquinez bridge stretch where they were doing the roadwork so you don't have to worry about that. it looks good all the way to the maze and to the bay. bridge toll plazat bay commutes. let me see if i can find interstate 880. it looks pretty good here with no major problems and at the bay bridge, it's light for 30. let's get back to the headlines. all right. thank you, sal. the westbound lanes of interstate 80 between interstate 780 in vallejo and highway four in hercules are back open this morning. this comes after caltrans workers spent labor day weekend working on that big repaving project. ktvu jana katsuyama was on the highway and drove right behind the chp officers as they reopened interstate 80. and janet reports from the carquinez bridge toll plaza. with the road reopened just in time for holiday travelers who were driving back home, an exciting sight for drivers monday as the chp moved into position to finally reopen westbound i-80 between vallejo and hercules. one day. early crews came through pulling up the cones and roadblock signs and then the chp began allowing traffic back on the highway. a slow rolling escort to keep the reopened safe.
