today, abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning, so what's it like out there right now? lena >> reggie here at the bay bridge toll plaza. things were pretty calm out here earlier this morning. only up until about 20 minutes ago when that rain really started to pick up. and hammer drivers heading through this toll plaza and we're also starting to see quite a bit of standing water for folks making their way through this area. i want to go now to some video taken out of san francisco yesterday. the san francisco public works department reported at least 20 new potholes surfacing, clogged storm drains and multiple floods throughout the city and while while that cleanup is really just beginning , they're gearing up for even more rain, handing out at least 400 sandbags on valencia street. flooded storm drains led to water coming inches from some storefronts, linda yee said it was like a river from my window, i could see the flow of the water, the rain going that way and the leaves are on there and it was really moving. 18th and folsom streets, many

she continues our coverage from the bay bridge toll plaza. and. >> here at the bay bridge toll plaza, drivers have already been experiencing a very wet and slow commute into the city so far this morning, and we saw multiple issues on our drive into the bay bridge toll plaza this morning. take a look at some of this video just into our newsroom from overnight. from some of the rain and flooding across san francisco. we saw flooding on highway 101. the transition ramp at the i-80 split near northbound 101 and grand. we saw cars continuing to drive through that flooded highway. chp says that's where some lanes had flooding up to 12in. this wet weather also caused big problems for drivers on the roads. yesterday, two people inside of this honda pilot died after they went off the road in the rain, possibly hitting a tree, according to chp officers. it happened along i-680 in pleasanton. this is the latest in not one, 2 or 3, but at least four fatal accidents across the bay area over the course of the previous three days before getting behind the wh

she continues our coverage from the bay bridge toll plaza. >> well, here at the bay bridge toll plaza. luckily, some of that rain has started to taper off a bit, but that didn't stop these drivers from having a very slow moving commute. as they made their way into the city with a number of problems along their routes this morning. let's go now to some video taken. this morning, right around 430, we saw three different tow trucks helping out three disabled cars after they appeared to have crashed on the bridge and were towed back here for safety. also on scene, helping them out, but no word on any injuries. now to a look. now to a look at the rain and flooding we saw across san francisco overnight. but this flooding happened around the northbound highway 101 onramp and the i-80 80 split and near 101 in grand. chp says that's where some lanes and flooding up to some lanes had flooding up to 12in. but we saw drivers continuing to drive through the high water anyway. this wet weather also caused big problems for drivers on the roads yesterday, two people inside of this honda pilot died af

the bay bridge itself. i skipped past the map. i want to show you near the toll plazaow, i'm really hitting buttons. there's active rain, orange and yellow is active rain coming into the area. we had a crash that cleared from the maze approaching the bay bridge that might have added to the slowdown. another crash, northbound 880 around 980, had to get that car off to the shoulder. we've had a number of spinouts reported, solo car crashes, a lot of activity at the bay bridge. you notice the green sensors dominate the traffic map. i showed you the rain in the south bay. along the coast, watch highway 1, be very careful coming into the santa cruz mountains. in fact, you don't really want to drive through there. we're going to check in with "today in the bay"'s bob redell because you're out there where we're talking about why you don't want to be. what's it like along highway 17? >> reporter: good morning to you, mike. we're on the main street bridge over highway 17 here in los gatos, and we're not really getting much rain. it's just a heavy drizzle, at best. right there,

. >> yeah, especially in parts of the north bay, the delta where we've seen the really dense fog. and that's a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. we are going to see in parts of the bay area some dense fog moving around. here is a look above the golden gate bridge, and we went from showers over the weekend to now patchy fog. so that moisture in some spots kind of soaked into the ground. it's condensing. as we look at the coastal areas for today, watch out for the potential of some dangerous surf and beach hazards, as well as rain coming back midweek. a look at our current visibility, down to zero in novato. be really careful in the north bay. as we get to this time of year, sometimes we see fog in different areas due to it kind of moving out of the sacramento valley and through the delta. it happens in the fall time and it can be a lot more thick and the visibility may be lower than what we see during times of the year. so watching out for that for the start of the day. this afternoon is going to be beautiful, with highs reaching into the mid to upper 60s, even a little bit warmer than we typically see for this time of year. >

the roads are still slick out there. so you have to be careful when you are crossing the bridge. now we go to the richmond-san rafael bridge and the bay bridge toll plaza. there the roads again, just like we've seen across the bay area. slick, but no traffic to speak of in this area either. and at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning, traffic is flowing smoothly right now. we're keeping an eye along the coast this morning because of some very strong waves already this morning, santa cruz county has issued an evacuation warning for coastal areas near seacliff state beach in aptos, telling people to be prepared to leave in pacifica. this is what the waves look like this morning, as steve has been telling us, there is a high surf warning in effect until tomorrow morning. waves could reach 30 to 40ft in some places, even people who have lived near the coast for a long time tell us they're surprised by the high surf. >> the waves are even coming up against the levee. that's pretty unusual. all the big high tide today. big rollers under that pier. been in some rough ocean weather. i'm an ocean fishing guy. uh nobody's going out today. not like this. except
