downtown, everybody from second street down to the inlet on the bayside and from 11th on the baysidesn't have power. they shut that power off as a proactive move. pretty cold for those folks. hopefully, not too many people there because the area below 17th street was under mandatory evacuation. we were told some 200 people did stay but then last night, crews went in and had to rescue 20 to 30 people because of the highed into waters, several feet of flood waters there in the downtown area. further north, also some damage. around 54th street, there was a restaurant, mackey's, flood water up almost to my knees. then also, i was told by the emergency management center that near street 130, there is a housing complex called montego bay. apparently, those homes flooded now and they are dealing with that currently. the roads headed into ocean city, route 09 and route 50, closed to inbound traffic. all of the street here south shut down. that will remain the case. it is just too dangerous out here. they want folk that remain in the area to stay indoors. win picking up here and it is rather

we are not only getting the surge coming over the dern -- the dunes, there is one coming off of the bayside as well, spilling over into coastal highway. if you go to my twitter account, you can see the pictures i took earlier as we were driving away. these pictures, you will not believe where the water is. 17th street and south is closed. there are other portions that are also closed. last night we learned that the rte. 50 bridge into the city was closed and remains closed. the rte. 90 bridge is open. however, there is flooding at the base want to get into ocean city. police are not letting traffic goes south. they are making exceptions for media and emergency personnel. keep in mind, if someone is coming into the city for some reason, be prepared, you will only be able to go north once you come off the roof 90 bridge. we were driving out and about and noticed the flooding that you see here is anywhere from 1 feet to 3 feet deep in the upper sections of the city. i am talking about the 30's to up north. some of the areas are seeing more significant [no audio] >> unfortunately, that is inevi

we're seeing flooding on the bayside, some backyards and homes seeing several feet of water. we're seeing streets as well through the area with a foot and a half or more of water. they are impassable. but as you mentioned perhaps the most significant damage, the most memorable damage so far from this storm has been to the fishing pier here in ocean city. about half of it has just been wiped away. it took a beating from all of the heavy surf overnight and all day today. when they came out today to take a look at it, you can see it has just washed away, the pilings buckled under the power of those avs, and it continues to take a beating now. i would expect we see more of that pier to collapse into the ocean as the hours go by. at this point, what we are seeing in ocean city is that about half of the town here is essentially cut off. they have traffic that has been cut off from the route 90 bridge all the way south. they have also cut off electricity as a precaution, because we are seeing flooding in the southern end of the town here from 11th street south along the oceanside. t

i would say yesterday around 4:00, we were over at the bayside of dewey beach. already starting to see some flooding there. that was before we'd even started to see any of these kinds of wind or any of this kind of rain. also seeing a lot of road closures already this morning. route 1 down to ocean city completely shut off, although we've seen lots of folks throughout the night trying to get out there, take some pictures. we've seen lots of boogie boarders trying to hit the surf earlier yesterday afternoon but of course this is so dangerous. this is under a mandatory evacuation order still which means you're not being forced to leave but if something goes wrong, there's no guarantee people can come in here to help get you out. another thing we've been hearing, there's been a lot of talk on social media about ocean city, the ocean city pier possibly being down. just got a report from law enforcement officers over there. they say the ocean city pier still standing so good news now but again still, this is a very, very beginning of hurricane sandy. i know right now

now we're on the north side of rehoboth beach, the bayside. this does a place called the northside play ground, a marina where lots of folks keep their boats. most of them are gone. this is harbor road, part of a parking lot here at the north shore playground. it is completely submerged in water. if you go a little farther out, it goes up well over my knees. i'm going to stick right about here. this is precisely why we're under a level two travel advisory right now throughout delaware but especially here in rehoboth beach. i want to show you some video right now that one of our photographers shot a few hours ago driving on another part of the north side of rehoboth beach. he's driving through at least 3 feet of water here as he's trying to get to our live shot location. it just goes to show you how dangerous these conditions are. this level two travel advisory means that nobody does allow -- nobody is allowed to be out driving except for emergency personnel, essential personnel, a few members of the media like ourselves but the goal is to not h
