and guess what, he is local, right here in the bayview. that is important to me, personally, it is important to the city. that is why the library director works so hard with dpw, our human rights commission, to do it right. this is the right way to do it. i know reverend walker knows that. it is so important to this community that we not only buildings for the future, but in a way that everyone in the community participates. so that they know that we, as a city, as a community, built this library. not some contractor or a department that you never see. we are doing it more and more with our local hiring ordinance. we grabbed the talent from within. we can build a world class libraries for everyone else to come to. that is what i enjoy doing, that is why i am here. i am also here to praise the library commissioners who are with us this morning, friends of the library, the manager who will be here. the library is our future. we are constructing -- reconstructing libraries all over the city. every time we come to the community, libraries are w

they would like to have us bring it back full force in the bayview. we can do that. commissioner chan: i think the commission would definitely like to stay in touch on these issues. it sounds like this could be really productive and smart as a way of addressing some of the concerns for the bayview. i am looking forward to hearing back on the report on the portland revolution that was discussed. i am curious as to a clarification about last week and this week. >> captain murphy actually spoke, and i will have him here last week -- next week to speak so it does not support in -- suffer in translation. president mazzucco: i would like to be involved in that. iran cease-fire in the u.s. attorney's office. i think that the results, when we did our first operation -- i think we identified 73 of the most responsible parties for crime in certain areas of the city. of that 73, i think that several were in a year's period of time were killed. it was tragic to hear that. it was a real interesting analysis to get that. several were taken into federal custody and sent permanently

we are working with the bayview merchants to make sure that everything is being done. and this is another example. you will see this neighborhood promotion brochure at the end of every aisle in this grocery store, so that not only when you shop here for your groceries, you will be able to find where you get your hair cut, where you get your shoes repaired, where you can get all the other things that this wonderful neighborhood has to offer. that will be right in this pressure so that we join them in advertising all of these. thank you to renaissance for being here today, because they're all part of this effort. a lot of the people in the portola did go to work at the bayview hunters point shipyard. the community has changed a lot since the 1920's, were originally started out as a large jewish community. after the jewish are adolescents -- after the jewish settlers, they became more maltese and italian. the last census showed, we were 53% asian-pacific islander. the community has continued to grow and change. everyone has really embraced that. we liked that sort of diversity here. >> now, let's meet the president of the dogpatch neighborhood association. she will tell us about life in dogpatch, a clean neighborhood on the eastern edge of potrero hill, and we will learn how the residents convinced the city to a vigil -- to designate the area a historic district. >> dogpatch and the health and cottages are the historic houses in the area. those were built for the union ironwork. this really is one of the most original live-work neighborhoods in san francisco. because of this mix of housing and industrial, they need to sit in terms of scale and mass and height for the neighborhood. d

i want to ask a representative -- she goes with the bayview renaissance center and the bayview merchants association. >> good morning, afternoon probably now. thank you, ed. i am the vice president of the bayview merchants association. as you ever heard from the mayor and ed and are supervisor, revitalization is about a lot of things. is about a lot of moving parts. is about a lot of relationships and things happen simultaneously. the work we are doing with the apprenticeship program, the things we're doing as bayview merchants, we are a robust group, and the work that the redevelopment agency and the mayor's office is doing with sf shine, all this work happens together. malia also referenced our community partners. revitalizing neighborhoods means all that were. and growing up, our mothers and fathers told us to where our best to sunday church. -- wear our best to sunday church. how things look matter. people need to be proud of how they look. vivian, we love you. this sf shines program is vital. you have appetizer's for as -- for us. we have merchants available. wheat thank you so much

i would also like to the knowledge our police captain from the bayview as well as a single side. this is the manifestation of community policing behind me. we have come to thank all of our elected leaders. but i am here to especially thank and pay my respects to the ambassador's themselves who have completed their technical training. not only will they be bringing safety to the san bruno avenue corridor, but they are making a fashion statement. you see these wonderful new jackets that they will be wearing. it is not easy, trust me. it is not easy to preach and bring safety first while you put it -- while looking good. i want to applaud the ambassadors for doing a good job. i think this is a fantastic example of our local hire ordinance at work, and i want to also added knowledge that this is a response from the ground up. this is an indigenous response to public safety. the answers to our streets, bringing safety to our emerging corridors does not necessarily rest solely in the hands of the police department, but in all of our hands. when we see a crime, we must remember to report

it happened yesterday at 4:30 in the afternoon, in the bayview district. her father heard gunshots while they were walking home from school. then his 5-year-old daughter fell to the ground and he realized she had been shot. police believe two men were shooting at each other and one of their bullets hit the girl. the shooting created outrage in the bayview. >> there is an unacceptable tolerance for violence. it's not okay to open fire anywhere. and i'm really hopeful this particular case will resonate with moms and dads and people in the bayview community to drive home the message it's not okay to open up fire. >> at least four shots were fired. police have not made any arrest. they're reviewing surveillance video from a nearby store to see if they can get a good look at the shooters. they are asking for witnesses to please come forward. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> all right, amy. thank you very much. >>> the man accused of a weekend crime spree in san jose is expected to make his first court appearance today. 33-year-old paul castil

it is a beautiful sunny day here in the bayview, right in the heart of the baby.s a great day to be here. we of great things we are talking about today. i am the director of public works for at least a little bit longer. happy to be here with this great group of folks behind me. i am going to introduce the folks who will speak, but just a little context here. there is a lot -- there are two themes coming together here we are talking about today. one of the themes is our neighborhoods. neighborhoods of san francisco are what make san francisco. for those of us who live here, they have an identity. they have a character. we want them looking good. the commercial corridors in our neighborhoods are the lifeblood of the neighborhoods. it is where we come to shop and to be and to walk around. it also happens to be were the greatest need is in terms of keeping the city clean. we want to be strategic about where we deploy our resources. said that is one of the themes here today. -- so that is one of the themes here today. the second theme is jobs. when maoyr lee -- mayor

the bayview, hunters point, agencies have existed and there were commissioners who were right here onssed away. here to be with us to highlight the challenge is the good faith efforts and local hiring project. good faith did not work in the sixties and it will not work now. the city had this local hiring process as well. the city chose this through legislation and this was supported by the board of supervisors. the ship from a good faith type of approach that measures success and outcomes and actual results is what i think might be really important because i don't think that the concerns will go away. the redevelopment continues to have a good face policy. to build upon the relationships that are developing that led it to the passage of this law. the board of supervisors can consider using their influence to influence the redevelopment agency. thank you. >> thank you, my name is oscar james. the one thing i want to bring up first is that i was like this session to clothes. -- to close. there will be a meeting on the 20 it and they're talking about capping. we don't want any of the shi

in the bayview. some of this is happening. president chiu: thank you very much. >> thank you for my time. two minutes goes fast. >> good afternoon, supervisors. stop the rape of the public library. do not support the friends of the public library. it should be obvious by various public comments today on various aspects of the same problem, which is the destruction of the democracy and destruction of our public assets, which are independent. influence peddling -- peddling, and it has been said that sunshine is the best of disinfectants. how was it possible to protect democracy where money can provide influence? the willful violation of the sunshine ordinance. this is below the standard of decency, good faith, and right action. we have recommended to the mayor that the president of the library commission be removed from office. in fact, ethics violations, the diversion of private money, influence peddling, and the destruction of the principles that allow accountability and allow the government to exist is what the privatizes get.
