the bbc goes now to olympic park for the latest. >> thank you very much. the most successful british columbian after winning his sixth gold. as a total of seven olympic medals, six of them gold over his career. at these games, team great britain has 22 goals, their highest -- 22 gold. in australia, they won the women's sprint to deny victoria tumble in a final goodbye. they added a silver to gold she had won earlier in these games. there was also a questionable success for britain, defeating germany to take gold in the dressage competition. the british team took command of the event from the start and some strong performances as well from the german-born rider. was the first time since 1980 germany has not won this event. china leads the metal table with 34 golds and they kept up their hope for a clean sweep in the table tennis events with gold in the women's team event. the trio beat a dead japanese trio while singapore took the bronze. ,ictory in the men's team event a golden sweep of all of the events here in london. china is also dominating in gymnasti

it's all at the website. this is "bbc world news." still ahead. we will find out how some quick thinking saved the day for some of yoo cane's -- usain bolt's biggest fans. time now for our series looking back at past olympics. in 1988, new zealand's went to -- as a defending gold medalist, but many doubted he could carry off another victory. his beloved horse was small for an eventer and by then getting on in age. but what he told us in today's post card is his sustaining olympics was different. >> it was in a pretty foreign country and certainly had no horse background, but built a specialty racing complex there and it was actually amazing. and leading up to seoul. there was a lot of talk that the horse at 16 was past his best and maybe he shouldn't be going and that my younger horse was probably a better bet. but i was pretty confident. and so i went to seoul in a very positive frame of mind and believed that the horse was as good as he ever had been. riding the horse there, he just felt absolutely amazing. i don't think i'd ever had him as good.

and you watch the bbc here of course and it's excellent coverage. but they're homers just like u.s. network say homer. they're cheering for their own and that makes perfect sense. the way that we have accused other u.s.-- so here the brits are talking about their silver or their bronze. and finally they got the gold in the women's rowing yesterday. and they were thrilled. and then bradley wigins of course the tour de france winner came through big time for them in cycling yesterday. and then three more golds today. and britain is not going to win the medal race that will be the u.s. or china. i'm not a big fan of the medal race personally. i think it is one of the most overrated things in sports but nonetheless it is here to stay and everyone counts it up and the u.s. is doing quite well as is china. brit-will be down there out 10th or so. but the fact that they have got now several gold medal can cheer. the bbc is breathing easier and shouldn't we all breathe easier if the bbc is happy. >> brown: all right, christine brennan in london, once again, thanks so much. >> thank you, jeff.
