counties across the bay area are closing beach parking lots for the long holiday weekend to reduce the spread of covid-19. public beach parking is off- limits in san francisco, marin, san mateo, to cruise and sonoma counties. we have seen coverage beginning with don ford in pacifica which is taking the beach crackdown even further. pacifica has taken the beach closer seriously. it is not just a bunch of signs and sidewalks. there are officers here to enforce the closure.'s neck two officers are keeping watch in a 4 x 4 wad trying to stop folks from getting on the beach preventing surfers as best they can getting into the water. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't these two started before the officers arrived. they were stopped when they came out. >> the cops are watching you guys for a long time. >> we were watching them too. >> how did that go when you met with up with them? >> they told us the beach was closed until monday and not tobacco it will be a misdemeanor. >> >> they didn't let me get on the beach. they said the covid shutdown with state beaches they had to shut down

right now i'm at pacifica beach, the sun is starting to come up. things are quiet. pically packed with folks wanting to celebrate the holiday. this year it's going to be a little different. starting today until sunday the parking lot here at this beach will be closed to reduce the number of people making their way out to the water in an attempt to slow that spread. now the parking here will be closed, but the beaches will be open to local residents to walk and to bike. the state's website telling visitors congregating is not allowed and those on the beach must follow social distancing guidelines. as we've mentioned wearing that mask in popular half moon bay they're taking things a step further. all beaches and parking will be closed. so what can families do as an alternative? we traveled to marin county. the county spokesperson says the key to staying safe this holiday weekend is doing things with the folks who you shelter in place with. resist the urge to hold bigger gatherings and remember to practice social distancing. >> there are other opportunities to have a ba

crowds of people boating and at the beach. having dinner out. what can we say at this point that will get people to stop gathering? >> so it's important to remember that the main driver of infection is prolonged exposure to somebody infected. that's usually face to face contact. when there's a poor ventilation. usually inside. people think being home is safe. being home with people you are isolating with is safe. if people are choosing to hang out with others who they are not isolating with it's important keep the activity outside. wear a mask and keep a distance. >> to be specific. for the outside stuff, let's say you. very careful wanted to go outside and spend time outside with the people you are quarantining with on this weekend. what might you do? >> the issue with out door spaces is not they themselves unsafe. it's that a lot of people like to congregate there. they are closing things like parking lots and making it so people are not incent vised to go. i would make sure i'm in a place that's not very populated. and spread out. wearing a ma

we've seen families arriving here on the beach. they're getting ready for a long fourth of july on the water, on the sand. of course top of mind, coronavirus. there's a sign out there, i'm not sure how well you can see it. there's a beach umbrella that might be blocking it. there are beach rules for social distancing. they're asking folks who do not live together to stay at least six feet apart. they're asking that folks not congregate in groups and they're keeping folks from gathering in groups of ten or more from here on the beach. the question, of course, is enforcement. i've already seen groups of more than ten people gathering here. and of course the situation in the state of florida clearly almost out of control. as you noted, yesterday we saw some 9,500 cases here. the day before the state set a record with 10,100 plus cases. the state of florida leading the nation now when it comes to the national daily average of new coronavirus cases. the governor, ron desantis, effectively leaving restrictions up to local officials and th
