reports of sleet inside the beltway in silver spring. it's down toward reston and chantilly and it's passing gaithersburg, too. so bethesda, north potomac, it's coming our way. i think it could be sleeting here even in d.c. in the next 30 to 60 minutes but the snow may take a couple of hours to follow. very heavy returns here south of strasburg over toward new market, mount jackson in the valley. sleet and snow mix. very quickly the road will get slick because sleet is like little ball bearings. saw it behind delia in frederick. the roads are getting quickly covered. snow bands back toward martinsburg, charles town, harpers ferry watch out. brunswick as well. this continues to move off toward us. when it's all said and done by the way, we're talking 4 to potentially 8 inches of snow. if anybody sees those higher totals, eight, maybe 10, that could be north and west. a general 4 to 8 with 3 to 6 south and falling temperatures throughout the day. upper 20s this afternoon. slick roads. they're going to get bad at times later this afternoon.

mainly on the beltway. on the inner loop between 270 and georgia avenue, remember we had that accident where a truck was actually stuck under the underpass? it's still there and the delays still significant now, so significant that we're seeing delays not only from that location but all the way toward 270, which is pretty long stretch. you can see the delays here. cars starting to move, but still the delay is significant. we ask drivers to stay off that road. we'll hear later what happened. on 266, we've seen trouble spots throughout much of this morning. it looks like trouble spots continue now on i-66 east between the plains and u.s. 15 we have an accident blocking the right lane there causing significant delays. once you get past this, you can get to manassas and no issues for the most part. problem spots 95 southbound lanes in virginia. a live look now, things are different than earlier today. certainly good news that things are starting to get better. we'll have more on the traffic situation coming up.

it is just shifted southward inside of the beltway. they're getting snow now in fredricksburg and still getting reports in southern maryland, though, of rain and then a little sleet mixing in from time to time. i want to show you the snowfall rates because this is really key at this time and what's going to help this to accumulate very very quickly. and it's this green band that we're seeing here from annapolis stretching through to washington, d.c. and just down to the south and the west. south of fairfax and down towards manassas and in that green band, we're estimating an inch and a half to two inches per hour is coming down. and that is really going to total up in bringing down that visibility. so this is really the worst that we've seen in the downtown area. now, notice we have a little bit of a brighter spot down here between fredricksburg through charles county stretching over just to the north and we've got some darker blues patching in along the blue ridge and areas off to the west. i want to show you the conditions downtown be

a little slow as you approach the beltway. thing at branch avenue inbound and the top of the beltway here looking pretty typical. back with travel times. >> thank you. >>> right now cunningham drive is closed following a water main break there in prince george's county. chopper 4 flew over the scene yesterday. crews have been working all night long. richard jordan with the progress they're making. >> reporter: aaron, good morning. a lot of repairs are already complete but part of the road is still closed. take a look at what is left now. it is the pipe that caused all the problems there. there you see it. 10 inches. 75 years old now out of the ground and ruptured yesterday. and about 30 homes were affected. wssc had to cut them off. shut off the water to the 30 homes in the neighborhood. they were left without water overnight. now the pipe has been replaced. it's not only not having water that was an issue but the water that was flow on the street that caused the problem as well. about four to five home the had minor damage. s
