denied a request by the state board of elections to continue in their current form so they can complete their investigation into allegations of election fraud in the state's ninth district the board refused to certify the results that republican mark harris defeated dan mccready by 5 votes. the board was scheduled to hold a public hearing on the matter on january 11th but no that hearing is in doubt. as of noon today there is no one sitting on the state board of elections in north carolina. as a result republicans are preparing to go to court to get mark harris seating before congress reconvenes. joining me to discuss this is dallas woodhouse, the director of the north carolina republican party. just three weeks ago i was in north carolina reporting the story. you told me if early vote totals were leaked and you thought they were a new election should take place. today you're saying the results should be certified. why the change of heart? >> well, simply being that we've had three weeks and the state board of election has not put forward evidence of these things. these were rumor, innuendo. there were stories about thousands of ballots being destroyed. that didn't happ

and ultimately, some choices were given to the school district, and the school board, all white, decided to name the school robert e. lee high school, which, you know, the white community would say this is just to honor our past and our history. tyler has a rich history connected to the confederacy, war camp, west of the mississippi was. camp ford is right up front here. so we're just honoring our confederate heritage. but for the black community, it 's very much seen as a thumb in your eye and a gesture of defiance. very quickly after they named the school, some overt symbols of the defiance became very clear. the mascot that was chosen, it was the rebels. they refer to them also as the confederates. the school symbol became the rebel flag. within a year after the school opened in 1960, a prominent family in town brought and donated a gigantic rebel flag. they bragged on as the second-biggest rebel flag in the world. here's a picture of it with some of the students around it. it took 20 high school boys to carry this flag. so again, you're having these symbols coming out as overt symbol
