like the murder of two police officers in their police cruiser in brooklyn last week. but gun related deaths among police officers remain historicallyow. the nonprofits annual report found that of the 126 officers killed in the line of duty in 2014, 50 were killed by firearms, but nearly as many 49 died as a result of traffic accidents. in other words, the incidents of police being shot to death on duty is thankfully rare. what is clear is the critical need to keep more data and to compel police agencies and, yes that could mean defying police unions to fully account for the number of civilians killed by police. just as we count the number of officers killed. the public has a compelling public policy interest in that data. hashtags aside. i'll see you back here tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. eastern. and be sure to visit us online at the reid report.
