the c.a.c. effective and powerful. two meetings ago, we had a great presentation from a.g.m. steven ritchie about the bay delta. it was clear that the c.a.c. needed more information to take a position. there was no lack of position on either end. the topic of the bay delta will actually be taken up by a smaller set of members at the c.a.c. next tuesday. i know i learned a lot from that meeting, not only in terms of issue but also in terms of process. most notably, though, it confirmed my gut feeling that the work that i want to do over the next year is to truly listen and understand the motivations and passions of my fellow c.a.c. members, to develop thoughtful recommendations and positions after sufficient deliberation. in the past, we've measured success by how many resolutions we've passed. in 2017-2018, that shifted. it's clear that we did much more than pass resolutions this year. the c.a.c. and its individual members have been very active in engaging and educating the board of supervisors,

the c.a.c. is, especially for our audience out there. if you have kids who are in special education or you're going to start your kid in school, this is very good information for you to have. i certainly didn't know my kid was special ed until later in the process, like second grade. when i found out about the c.a.c., that's when i found out, at some point in time. san francisco unified school district special education committee advisory committee, that's the c.a.c., is a state-mandated organization, part of the california department of education. there are over 700,000 special education students in the state of california. these students are organized into special education local plan areas, which include many school districts. the san francisco selpa is special, in that we're one of the largest single-district selpa. california state education code mandates that each selpa must have a community advisory committee and the majority of the committee members must be parents. c.a.c. must sign off o

with that said, the c.a.c. applauded and commended the project team and this board for taking the appropriate actions of closing this center immediately out of an abundance of caution in access to making and keeping building safety the number one priority. we also appreciate the efforts the project team to keep us and the public updated with the latest information. during our meeting, the project team went through slides in detail and provided us with ample time to ask varietied and ample list of questions. we appreciate the level of detail provided outlining what is known to this point with no speculation and the next steps to determine the cause, design of the associated fix, associate timeline, which will lead to the eventual reopening of the rooftop park and the transit center. it was articulated clearly throughout the presentation, the reopening will occur only when it has been demonstrated appropriate repairs have been made and the center was safe. we were also pleased to here about the various peer review

i think, given my background and my interests in the soma c.a.c. are really about making sure that i think it's really unfortunate this community is defined by its challenges and there are so many community assets and such a entrepreneurial spirit in the community. something like the stabilization fund really provides the necessary resources to the non profits who are serving these folks and kind of illicitting that spirit. that's something i try and approach the community in that way and it's something i appreciate that the c.a.c. as well. perhaps two years have been fulfilling in service and i've learned a lot about my own community and the work that we do. so i just am very proud to be a community member and help you serve in this way. thank you. >> thank you. >> do we have any questions. >> thank you, supervisors. i a apologize, i was across the hall at the other committee hearing tracking an important financial item for the central soma plant. i didn't realize you had jumped ahead that quickly. >> we were trying to jump around. >> and of course
