they can vote in the california primary and they will be the big question mark.o the broader point of significance of california she doesn't need to win the state mathematically to clench the nomination. as you point out she will likely clench it after winning new jersey which is before all the votes in california are even counted if she does in fact win new jersey, however, it is significant because if she loses a state like california senator sanders has a strong argument to stay in the race. if she wins california then he loses his argument to stay in the race. remember, if she loses the most populous state it could make her look wounded heading into that general election with donald trump undoubtedly a bruising battle. she very much wants to win and why she added extra events there. she will have a five-day campaign swing. on the other hand, senator sanders hasn't left the state and he's outspending her 2-1 and he called california the big enchilada and that is exactly what it is from his standpoint. >> hillary clinton was able to carry this state in '08 agai

for the republicans, california is winner take most. d, 39%, cruz 32%, kasich 18. as of now when you're looking at the numbers, is there anything to say that trajectory will change? >> as you look at the polls taken after ours -- ours was done in the beginning of april -- it appears as though trump is expanding his lead both nationally and in other states. i've even seen a california poll that shows a double digit lead. the trajectory appears to be moving in trump's direction. for trump, i think he has to be encouraged with the way the progression of the polls have been taking. >> i was looking at capital weekly out of california. they were looking at registration numbers coming out of the state. the democrat number is up like 185% compared to 2012. when you look at the republican side in terms of registrants, those numbers doubling from 2012. the question might be then, those who are registering, is it typical of other states where they have more often supported donald trump? >> it could be. it's hard to say. we'd have to do a separate
