north carolina. why are the democrats going to north carolina? north carolina after all has a giant downside for the democratic party which is organized labor is a really important democratic constituency. and a very embattled one right now. union rights under attack this year essentially anywhere that republicans have governing authority, from washington, d.c., to madison, wisconsin, to columbus, ohio, to anywhere you noticed a teacher picketing or a firefighter writing a letter to the editor. it has been a tough year for union rights. democrats will not be making it any easier on unions when they convene in charlotte, north carolina, since that is a city without a single unionized hotel. this is not some sort of secret that they realized after the fact. democrats made their decision to hold their convention in charlotte in full knowledge of the union rights problem that it presents. but they decided to go there anyway. they decided to go there anyway because north carolina is really important to them. really important specifically to barack oba

looks like that flooding concern not as much of a threat as the main rain, the heaviest stuff on the carolina coast and new england. but this storm out here with the heavy rains that are going on, as this gets closer, that is when our thunderstorm threat will increase, and we're talking about damaging wind gusts and isolated tornadoes. the moisture right now getting closer. we had a nice break after this morning, but rain returning into fairfax county through manassas and prince william county, and points of the south and west, this is one area of showers but i do expect we'll see more. the problem we have for later, we've got two storms. one area of low pressure, weakening one, near us now. but a much stormier area of low pressure west with upper level wind support so these will come together, this will be moving towards us, and as this low approaches later this afternoon, maybe not until 4 or 5 or 6:00, into the first part of tonight, that's when the severe weather threat will increase and we're talking again about possibly some damaging wind gusts in the thunderstorms and isolated tornadoe

we have two moisture sources and heavy rain bands through georgia and the carolinas. e high pressure is slipping out to the east and helping to funnel in a lot of this moisture. we have got the tropical feed which is very similar to what we had with the remnants of lee and well irene itself and we have the low pressure system pulling up in our direction and wherever the bands happen to set up, someone could get dumped on. but the storm itself pulse in -- pulls in our direction. two hits this storm and another one from the west that swings through late thursday. in twoon we he get a few inches -- in between, we get a few inches rainfall. we build through the afternoon. plan to get wet in the afternoon. heavy bands of rain one conveyor belt belt along the coastline. we will plan for a couple wet days here paying off the dry weather we had. 74 today increasing clouds and the showers developing. and rain develops overnight but bands of heavy rain and possible flooding tomorrow. only upper 60s. thursday a break in the morning. late storms possible 7 3. and near 70 and windy

evangelicals are important when the republican calendar moves to south carolina. 50% in the 2008 southublican primary described themselves as born again christians or evangelicals. again, this is a romney/cain when you look at the statewide polling among republicans and again among evangelical, look at this, herman cain nearly 30%, at 28%. surprising candidate in the race. again, governor perry at 16% here doing better in south carolina than he is in iowa. that's a warning shot. look at that. the same exact percentage from mitt romney among evangelicals in iowa and south carolina. that's not so bad. he's holding his own. maybe he has a ceiling among the voters and a problem to deal with. among those who describe themselves as not born again christians, that's why governor romney is strong in the race. he leads by a large margin among those. these voters, evangelicals, they turn out, fred, in iowa, we know they turn out in south carolina. they are among the most committed, especially in the caucuses. it's a quirky processing. herman cain the leader right now. evangelical voters in those
