actually malaria was why the cdc was created. we had not seen malaria in the united states in 25 years but last year in florida and texas, a larger outbreak in florida we saw malaria. again, this is the great partnership not just at the cdc but at the state and local level. great work at the state and local level, in partnership with their health care systems, making sure we were identifying cases, doing the vector control work. as i've been saying in speeches, you didn't hear that we had to close disney world, because public health worked. we extinguish that malaria outbreak and you have not seen it again and in fact we did not see it again this season. third example, mpox. we know we have a certain kind of mpox here in the united states but we've been watching a new form of mpox in east africa, and we have been parent to be able to detect it here. we saw our first kiss from a traveler coming back from that part of africa. we were able to make sure again that we were deploying quickly, using our wastewater data infrastructure par

well, this morning, the cdc health leaders, they are confirming the first human death fr the bird flu. the unidentified senior lived in louisiana, had underlying medical conditions. they were believed to have been infected from a flock of backyard birds. now, just under 70 cases have been recorded in ten states, with about half of them in california. most have become infected from infected cattle or poultry, and most of those cases are mild. so far, there's no evidence of the virus that can be spread from human to human. but the cdc leaders also say samples from the louisiana patient show signs of mutations that may ultimately lead to the virus becoming transmissible between people all the same, one bay area infectious disease specialist says at this point, there is no need to panic. this case in louisiana is hopefefully isolated. right now. it's a different strain from what the dairy workers have had in california. and but it illustrates that the virus can do a more serious things and cause us to be very ill. doctor chin-hong also recommends, if you haven't done so just yet, get your
