renovations on the knutson building in downtown cedar rapids will likely start soon. city council members are holding a special meeting today to talk about the project, and hobart historic restoration's role in it. last month, the council picked a proposal from hobart to turn the building into apartments and office space. council members liked the idea of immediately stabilizing the building. initially, the council considered a plan to turn the building into a magnet school. but the cedar rapids school district says it will likely find another location. that same development group finished renovations in the neighboring mott building earlier this year. the hobart group used $3 million dollars in grants to turn the empty building into commercial offices and loft apartments. the building had sat empty since the 2008 flood. sunlight will soon power homes in urbana. 100 homes when it's up and running in mid-october. the 7-acre site will have more than 3,500 panels. it's part of a partnership between 2 electric utility companies. they decided to switch to solar after customers
