we had the charlottesville police chief, timothy longo. is extremely emotional and he uttered the words, jesse matthew multiple times in that press conference for the first time. before then they would only refer to the person of interest. quote, chief longo said, i believe jesse matthew is the last person hannah graham was seen with before she van he shalled off the face of the earth. if you can hear me, the police chief also reported that jesse matthew showed up at the police station yesterday with a couple of family members with him. jesse matthew was then given an attorney. and then he walked out with that attorney. this happened without the police being able to question him first. and chief longo said that he sped away from that police station at a high rate of speed, quote. and they are looking for this guy. of course, he is no longer just a person of interest. he is named there. so tell me what you took out of that press conference, leland. >> reporter: really striking. the thing is that jesse matthew sped out. town, out of the coun

peggy fox is in charlottesville now with the latest from today. >> reporter: we're waiting for charlottesville police chief timothy longo to begin speaking at the podium. as soon as he does, we'll take it live. today we talked with his attorney james camblos and are hearing rumors perhaps there is an arrest. we'll learn that when the chief comes up today. we talked to his attorney today james camblos who would not say if he knew where his client was. all he did was confirm yes, he represents jesse matthew. we also learned today that jesse matthew has been suspended without pay from his job at the uva medical center. we also have some video from him on a football field. he was a volunteer coach at the covenant school. he played football at liberty university and then later became this volunteer coach at covenant school. we heard from the headmaster at covenant who said that he has been terminated from that volunteer position and has no association with the school in any capacity. so this goes back to september 13th. that is the last moment hannah graham was seen alive and jesse matthew is seen

searching to find anything related to hannah or hannah, herself, jesse matthew walked into the charlottesville police department unannounced and he asked for an attorney. and what we learned that press conference today was that they got him an attorney, and that he didn't talk. and then he left the building after that. so they knew as little as they did when he walked in when he left. but following that, the police chief said that he was driving and he increased his speed to what police believed was reckless driving, allegedly fleeing in the minds of some, and the police pulled him over and now have an arrest warrant for him with two warrants of misdemeanor reckless driving. i specifically asked the chief, have you arrested him yet, are you going to arrest him? the answer was, they're aggressively pursuing where he is, and if he does not give himself up, they will then arrest him. so along with that, they are also waiting for forensic results on the searches of the vehicle, which they made a very big point of at this press conference, that anyone who saw hannah or jesse or either one in the ve

the case of the missing uva student hannah graham. charlottesville police told us they're in the process of executing search warrants. one on a car and another on an apartment. and joining me now is the "washington post" taylor shapiro who is outside the apartment that's being searched right now. we also have with us an fbi profiler that' been following the scene as well. what can you tell us is happening there? what can you see? >> right now the police chief was on the scene and he's been speaking with reporters very briefly this morning. but he said they first came to this apartment after receiving multiple tips about a vehicle that they believe is connected to the case. the chief didn't say how exactly the car was connected but just that it was crucial to the investigation at this point. when they executed the search warrant, there were people inside, but he said that no one is being questioned at the time and no one has net been taken into custody. >> the apartment, is it near -- forgive me if you said this, taylor. is it near where hannah was se
