judy wang joins us live from the chicago police area 2 headquarters. latest on the case. >>> good afternoon. police have been questioning the boy's father here at area 2 since wednesday. prosecutors have not filed charges against him. investigators looking into whether dispute with the boy's mother may have led to this. family friends say the father was upset because the mother did not want to get back together with him. chicago police issued an endangered juvenile alert this week seeking public's help in locating the 14 month old boy. that is after the father had apparently made threats and refused to return the child to his mother. the sfather picked up dontrelle johnson for visitation. on wednesday, johnson's mother called police no report her ex- boyfriend threatened to harm himself and the child. officers took the father into custody but say he would not tell them where to find johnson. at about 2:00 yesterday afternoon a boater saw the boy's body floating in the lake near east 65 street. boy was pronounced dead at comers children hospital. a frien

"the chicago tribune" summarized some of the issues at stake here. under this headline, giannoulias still worked at family's bank in '06. candidate tells voters he left by late 2005. he tells voters he was gone from his troubled family bank by late 2005, but that's not what he told the irs. giannoulias was able to take a $2.7 million tax deduction because he reported working hundreds of hours at broadway bank in 2006. he says there's no contradiction. the issue highlights the fine line that he walked telling exactly what he did and when he did it. a bull's-eye for critics bank's loans for mob figures that contributed to broadway's collapse earlier this year. saying he left in 2005 gives giannoulias maximum distance from the bank's questionable lending practices, the april takeover by federal regulators and other controversies such as a loan by the bank to convicted influence peddler tony rezko. in early 2006. but by reporting that he worked at least 500 hours at broadway in 2006 giannoulias was able to get a break that helped him avoid paying federal

there is our high wind watch for the chicago area. so it's going to get windy and here is the jet stream. see what this thing does is the winds blow here and air exits air from below up. that drops barometric pressure rush in to fill in for the air that's stucked up into this jet stream and then with time it turns northwest and so this thing will start tugging some very cool air. coolest air of the season into our area. we have unseasonably warm air here. reason the jet stream is that strong is because cold air is next to warm air and the bigger the temperatures spread, the stronger the winds. the temperatures spread on this one is extreme so we expect temperatures to bop around quite a bit. crashing later this week only to warm up again from all indcations this weekend for the halloween weekend. so how about ta? we are timing these warm spells perfectly. but we may have a severe weather outbreak and some wind to deal with for a couple days before this takes place. partly sunny. turning increasingly windy this afternoon. but the main e

what does the move for chicago and the administration?e are going to ask former illinois governor rod blagojevich and governor, good to have you back with us. you know rahm emanuel pretty well. were you surprised by the decision? >> no, i wasn't. rahm is a very ambitious guy and indicated months before he was interested in running for mayor. it didn't surprise me that mayor daley chose not to run again. in fact, four days after president obama was elected, rahm and i had a telephone conversation where i was surprised, expressed my surprise to him that he was going to be the chief of staff. i thought he was on a path to become speaker of the house. and he indicated to me that he only wanted to do the job of chief of staff for two years and that he had hoped to have a place holder in the congressman that might get a cabinet position and he would come back and get a congressional seat. so the fact that he's come back now to run for mayor is no surprise, and i think he will be a very competitive candidate for mayor. >> mike: well, the race is

. >> reporter: daniel vasquez was in the marines for four years before applying to become a chicago police officer. his mother tells the tribune she thought the job was too dangerous but there was nothing she could say or do to stop her youngest child from being a cop. 28-year-old daniel vasquez is in his final phase of becoming a chicago police officer. he started training six months ago and is set to graduate november 16. the first day in the academy, recruits are told it is their job to serve. >> law enforcement is about public service. we go over and over that being a police officer, it's your job to help people and to go out every chance you get and effect people's lives. >> reporter: that's what daniel vasquez was doing this morning when he stopped on i-55 to help a stranded motorist. when he was approaching the car, another vehicle hit the median and crashed into him. he was taken to the hospital with brain injuries. >> we're just hoping for a speedy recovery. >> reporter: this is not the first tragedy to hit the academy. in july officer soderberg was killed. the mood around this bu
