oh, great, you are going to be here for the celebration of the chinatown campus. tell me more about that. i've been hearing a lot about it ever since and it's lived up to all the expectations. i do want to say welcome to all of you on behalf of the staff, the faculty, the administrators and all the students at city college. we appreciate your support. the city of san francisco made this possible as did the many, many personal individual donors who came to us and did what we needed when we needed it. the most important of it being, of course -- and i am a little biased -- and that is that the community college cause is above all as far as i'm concerned. the movement that we're a part of, making a difference in hundreds of thousands of people's lives, changing the city, changing the state, changing the country, and i might add as i said to the mayor, changing the world, just look around this group, is something of which we can be very proud. we appreciate your support, we thank you for your support and we know this institution and this facility is probably going to o

across the city, we have been able to work and recreation centers like this. chinatown, as you have heard, is one of the most dense neighborhoods in our country. so facilities like this are very, very important for us to provide. most importantly, what do think the architect and design team that worked very, very closely with the community, all the community groups, to make sure that the center and the correct activities are being designed as part of this project. especially. wong, stanly, michele, and farah. a big hand to them because there were the designers. [applause] i also want to think david, the construction manager of all the dpw staff and all the contractors to came here. on a project like this on the bottom of a slope with the cable cars, there's a lot of activity. as you heard, we were able to deliver the product on time, on budget, but even better, below budget. again, we're working very hard together. lastly, you heard about all the art in the building. i want to point out this particular ceramic over here. orange, ground, and gray. those all locally-made

the bed bugs. so my father-in-law went to chinatown cdc for help. so that was brought to the attention of the health department. so he couldn't even sleep well at night. so we are really hopeful that the legislation will help people to understand how they are treated and get better. we are living in a pretty bad situation once you have bed bugs. so we hope that we could get this legislation done really fast, so things will get better for us.

we have folk b folks from the mission, chinatown, tenderloin throughout the city committed to improving education and the treatment and abatement of bedbugs. many of us when we have been convening we have met with a lot of tenants and many of us are front line staff, really, having worked with a lot of tenants who have firsthand experience on the trauma, the frustration and anxiety that come with bed bing festation. it can affect anyone. it doesn't matter how old you are or how rich or how poor you are. supervisor kim we really wanted to applaud you for supporting this legislation from the very begining that would improve the knowledge and awareness of bedbugs in the city and helping demystify who get bedbugs and to have written rules and responsibilities for not just tenants, but landlords and pest control operators. so we think that having clearer instructions would make the experience of our tenants that we serve much better since property management would have a clear understanding of what to do, what to expect what infestations do occur. so nobody is caught surprised. it would mean
