and what it took just kind efforts behind the scene to keep that mass vaccination site open at the coliseum. >> sure. yeah, i was a lot late night talks to get the deal guy and then have to give our i think still partners in alameda county and our partners at the state which really can't. we all came together. the state is contributing a lot of vaccine. we are as well known in the county. a lot of that state person now is staying on from their deployment. so we're really grateful to them. and it really was a lot of good will in just a desire to both of our county population vaccinated. the bay area's been amongst the leaders and the state and getting a population vaccinated. this was another example of good collaboration between different government entities for the health of our population. >> so it sounds like there's enough supply. there's definitely enough sites now more people are eligible 16 and older in contra, costa county. we're hearing this term herd immunity what's the target date for a contra costa county and even the bay area for reaching that point. >> you we had initially set

padilla will be at the oakland coliseum at 2 45 discussing the. anticipated expansion of vaccine eligibility for california's 16 years and older, which will take place on april 15th, which is next thursday, however, coincidently the place that he that will not be administering those vaccines for the newly eligible because fema had planned to only keep the coliseum as a mass vaccination site for eight weeks, and that term is coming to an end on sunday, the coliseum administers about 42,000 vaccines a week more. the 30,000 weekly doses, alameda county administers. fema says it's appropriate to close this site, which gets vaccines from the federal government, because soon the state will be getting thousands of more doses. if they don't arrive on time. however alameda county supervisors worry there may be a vaccine supply shortage. was the extra vaccine and the staffing that really helped us out. on friday, alameda county supervisors sent letters to fema requesting at least an additional four week extension on keeping the oakland policy and vaccinatio

senators are asking fema to keep the oakland coliseum up and running. dianne feinstein and alex padilla say it is essential to california. each side can administer 7,500 doses a day. now with vaccine eligibility expanding, they say the mass vac sites are vital, especially for reaching members of underserved communities. and this won't affect the a's system. a different parking lot will be used for the home games and it won't be a problem for capacity to be limited at the games right now. >> another major development when it comes to kids and the vaccine. younger teenagers could soon be eligible. today pfizer announced its vaccine is 100% effective in kids age 12 to 15. more than 2,200 young teenagers were will enroll in a trial here in the united states. pfizer says 18 of those 2,200 kids who received a placebo got covid. none of the kids who got the real vaccine got covid. nbc bay area jody hernandez has more from contra costa county. >> over half a million people died from this thing. to me that's all i need to know. it's serious and i do want my kid t
