kaplan, the vote means the roots and soul will be able to call the coliseum home. >> the alameda countyiseum authority held a special board meeting this morning at unanimously approved a resolution to negotiate a licensing agreement with the oakland roots and soul sports club. the agreement would allow the teams to play at the coliseum during the 2025 to 2026 soccer season. the approval comes as oakland faces the potential loss of a third professional sports franchise within a decade. earlier on the four, we spoke with mayor tao and the co-founder of the teams. mayor tao says the move clears a major hurdle towards keeping professional sports here in oakland. what it took was the partnership with the county through the jpa and of course, oracle arena as well. >> you know, i'm also thankful for the a's, for sharing the coliseum. and so it's really exciting. we're going to be able to have a professional women's soccer team here in oakland. >> idris arghandiwal, co-founder of the roots sports club, says the teams will bring back some of the good new energy to the coliseum. >> our community

zac sos reporting live for us tonight outside the oakland coliseum. zach. thank you. also on this opening day, two local groups, the oakland united coalition and the oakland 68, urged the alameda county county board of supervisors to sell their stake in the coliseum to the city of oakland. the group say they believe this would help fans, quote, take control back of this ballpark. they say such a move would bring in jobs, affordable housing and other opportunities for residents. oakland 68 board member quintana. branch said, we have a right to control our own greatest assets, especially when they are currently being controlled by folks who don't care about our town. we call upon the alameda county board of supervisors to stop the current course of action and instead prioritize the interests of the community they are sworn to serve. the oakland a's coming up short in tonight's season opener. the san francisco giants, also with a tough loss on their road opener in san diego. we will have highlights from both games coming up a little bit later in sports. and to stay on top

bob redell joins us live at the coliseum this morning. roups hope fans don't step foot into the stadium today. >> reporter: yeah, there are two groups and they are hoping that fans show up for the home opener stay outside here in the parking lot for a block party protest against the a's move to las vegas. these two groups put together a website called the summer of boycott. to quote, channel our selective frustration, and they want the owner to know they want the a's to stay in oakland and not move to the las vegas strip. >> the a's belong in oakland and the fans deserve the team. the fans built-up and created the mystique around the a's. we deserve better, you know, so we are hoping eventually, somehow, you know, enough people step in and maybe do a quiet payoff issue, and to date that has not proven to be the case. >> reporter: in the past, the a's have opened up the parking lot here four to six hours before the home opener to let the long line of fans in to tailgate, and yesterday the team released a statement that they will not open th

looking live now at the oakland coliseum, where tomorrow is opening day for both the oakland a's and the san francisco giants . the giants, though, start on the road. the a's open at the coliseum, and perhaps for the very last time, the team is planning to move to las vegas. and a lot of frustrated a's fans are planning to stage an opening day boycott right outside the coliseum. that boycott is being organized by the fan group last dive bar. earlier today on the four, we spoke with brian johansen, one of the organizers. he says they're urging fans to skip the game and join a protest and tailgate right there in parking lot b at the coliseum. >> we're hoping to get 15 to 20,000 people in that parking lot, and it's going to be a huge, huge party. and basically it's an opportunity for people that weren't going to give their money to fisher anyways, to have an opportunity to come together, celebrate as fans, we got tons of activities, planned. there's going to be food, there's going to be games, there's tons of giveaways. >> johansen says tomorrow's protests will also kick off what is bei

there is a meeting taking place about a possible lease extension at the coliseum? >> correct. well aware, marcus and laura, the a's lease at the coliseum expires after this baseball season. last month the city oakland, alameda county and the team did meet to discuss a possible extension at the coliseum site and they are, again, as planned meeting again this morning about this. we did reach out to the city of oakland for some comment to give us insight on what's happening at today's meeting and they didn't offer us much insight, just this statement. i'm quoting here. the city of oakland didn't -- the a's are looking for a short-term lease while they build a new $1.5 billion stadium in las vegas. completion which likely wouldn't be until 2028. last week the team released these renderings of the ballpark which will be built on the site of the tropicana hotel. that hotel will close on april 2nd as the site is prepared for construction. it has aaa ballparks in salt lake city if they can't come to an agreement on a lease extension at the co see up. coliseum. the city and county need
