the colorado state capitol was intended to be built out of as many native materials to the state of colorado as possible. you wanted to keep as much money of building the capitol in the state, so most of the stone from the capitol came from local quarries. but decorative materials inside the building came from other states, including white oak from arkansas. all of the door frames, window frames are made out of that. brass throughout the building came from foundries in cincinnati, ohio, and luciville, kentucky. the capitol building also has over 33 stained glass windows and they represent various f figures in colorado history, political figures, historical individuals, men and women from very many ethnic groups as well. the window behind me honors emily griffith, who was a school teacher in the early 1900s, and she founded the emily griffith opportunity school, which now operates as a vocational training school. her intention was to provide free edge kaegz on any practical issue that children or adults might want to learn. if you wanted to find a better job, if you wanted to get skills that

the colorado state capital stands at one mile above sea level. there are actually mile high -- three mile high markers on the west steps. the original one was on the 15th step which is a brass marker that was the ultimate souvenir of denver. people kept stealing it so we had to put new ones in. in 1947, they can't one mile above sea level on the 15th step. in 1969, a group of students from colorado state university remeasured and they said we were off i three steps. -- by three steps. our third mile high marker because the federal government redefined sea level and how we judge altitude. global warming and two levels and all of that aside, the mile high marker actually dropped. it is on the 13th step. there is a plug that was installed in 2003. we are on the second-floor of the colorado state capital. this is the legislative floor. this is where the 100 members of the general assembly meet between early january and early may. it was intended to be built out of as many native materials as possible. you want to keep as much of the money as building

we have had some snowpack in the upper colorado. but we have an average, so-called average snowfall, moisture, it evaporates now because of the long standing conditions that we have. so that's a problem. we have massive wildfires that have been created in nevada. the fires and they are talking about listing the sage-grouse which is going to interfere with mining and going to interfere with ranching. it's going to interfere with developers. we have done lots of stuff, spent huge amounts of money on the colorado. we get most of our water out of lake mead for southern nevada. and we have had to line ditches. we have had to bank water for arizona. we have done all kinds of things to try to alleviate the water shortage that we have in southern nevada. and it hasn'wo well. >> you know, speaking of that, that friend i mentioned, she's in reno so i hear a lot about the crisis in washoe. it's probably the worst. there aren't any really good counties in general. but washoe is really suffering. but statewide, what are some conservation efforts
