debbie wasserman schultz says she will step down when the dnc is over. the florida congresswoman has been under fire following the publication of hacked e-mails suggesting the democratic national committee favored hillary clinton in the presidential primaries. good evening. i'm keith jones. joining you live from the wells fargo center site of the democratic national convention. nbc 10 will be here all week long covering the stories coming out of the convention. that big story today is wasserman schultz stepping down. we're live with reaction to this breaking news. >> reporter: bernie sanders and his supporters are applauding this move but that does not mean that this is over. one group called the bernie delegates network is asking why she's not stepping down till the end of the week. and another sanders supporter tells me this does not solve the problems they see with the democratic party. inside the convention hall, the stage is set for hillary clinton to become the democratic nominee, but already a major shake-up. the woman set to gavel this convention

and in the dnc, it was more hilo rated. nald trump thinks he is a rating's machine. >> he is >> number one. and his style beat out 15 or 16 people run nothing the primries. give it up. >> and i think the clinton campaign did hillary clinton a disservice and there was a lot of emphasis on making her this likeable person and we know she is not that. what they should have done is skipped that. and hillary said i may not be your best friend. but i can fix this country and i don't think we saw that. i think a lot of people saw through chelsea clinton's speech and bill clinton's speech and that works against her. >> and i think in august. she was overshadowed. august is trump's territory. what does everybody do on august. go to the hampton house and on the shore and god knows what you do. >> it is a hot commune. >> and you guys will be towning out the news and only thing that will break through your sun burned face is something that donald trump does. >> hillary will not make news in august. trump will pierce the void at the beach

he said this could make it harder to promote unity at the dnc. in one of the e-mails a top dnc official seems to want to use sanders religious beliefs against him. brad marshall wrote the democratic party should get someone to ask if sanders believed in god. saying he had skated on saying he was of jewish heritage. >>> marshall apologized on facebook, saying i deeply regret that my sensitive, emotional e-mails would cause embarrassment to the dnc. donald trump reacted on the controversy on twitter today saying, leaked e-mails of dnc show plans to destroy bernie sanders, mocked his heritage and much more. really vicious, rigged. and, of course, bernie sanders is set to speak at the dnc on monday. tonight his supporters reacted to the news of the leak of those 20,000 e-mails. >> to be honest, i wasn't surprised, this had election has been rigged against bernie sanders. the dnc have not been supporting him. >> sanders supporters plan to hold protests in philadelphia over the next several days. >>> the official 2016 democratic ticket debuted today in

joining us from tomorrow's site at the dnc. nior members of the rnc and trump's campaign manager they're right here in philadelphia hoping to counter any positive press for democratics. kelly o'donnell is here in philly as well. hillary clinton and others criticized donald trump over that convention speech saying he was very dark and he said quote i alone can fix it. i know he talked to chuck todd. how specifically has donald trump reacted to this criticism? >> that's a touch point that hillary clinton grabbed on to and used that in her role out speech trying to suggest that donald trump had a totalitarian attitude. that his leadership is not about bringing people together. it's a top down sort of argument and you're right there will be the campaign chairman and the rnc also chairman doing that counter strategy and said hillary clinton had it all wrong but his intention was something quite different. here's a clip of that. >> part of it is i'm comparing myself to hillary. we look at her record. her record has been a disaster. i'
