by right, the citizens have a say in dolores. we will try to make sure we have a variety of opinions and thoughts as we continue. we will come back to you at the october commission meeting with some of the feedback we have gotten. you are more than invited to the bataan that meeting as well. -- you are more than invited to attend that meeting. last night was a function in golden gate park. we had 75 enthusiastic part advocates there. it was attended by our mayor. we had the president of our commission serving as our illustrious auctioneer. our preliminary report is that the event netted about $500,000, which is really terrific. more important than the money raised was the level of support, enthusiasm, and passion for our parks and open spaces. it was a very celebratory event that could not have happened without the leadership of the parks trust. i want to thank them immensely for all of the work and sweat that was put into it. my own staff did a fantastic job in partnering with them and supporting the event. i really want to thank

a $1.5 million gift to renovate the dolores park playground. and another $150,000 gift from the san francisco parks trust to provide basically equipment and supplies for our new rec centers. this is in addition to some of the philanthropy generated by a couple of other key partners. the city fields foundation which over the past five years has given the department -- contributed to the department nearly $25 million, to renovate our play fields. and several million dollars from trust for public lant land who has helped us raise money to renovate three very important park projects. we've implemented, as we talked about today, we've implemented new amenities and concessions in our parks that help generate revenue from the department. obviously our food carts have been much discussed today. but we've also got an teak market at candlestick, a new parkwide bicycle rental which will enable our park users to rent a bike and ride it and drop the bike off there. we've got a new management agreement at the harding park golf course that is now awaiting boar

you go down into the inner mission, which is one of the old historic areas of san francisco as well, centered around mission dolores. which was historically, in the 1930, 20th century, a tremendously ethnically mixed area. you had scandinavians, you had lots of germans in that area. people forget about that. then you go into the tenderloin area. when i was growing up in the city, one of the features of the tenderloin was it held mainly couples or single individuals who worked downtown or in the union square area. that's obviously now changed. chris daly: the tenderloin has a bad rap you know in terms of, some people think it's dirty and it's intersection of a lot of social ills. but i see the tenderloin as one of the vibrant neighborhoods in san francisco. in terms of the activity in the tenderloin, the diversity in the tenderloin, the community initiatives and efforts that happen in the tenderloin. and a rich history the neighborhood and it's identity against a backdrop of an encroaching hospitality district and financial district. jerry jai: those stereotypes were in my mind when i first started, when my experien
