drawing that is pencil. and graphite is a lubricant, and that's why the white-out is peeling off the drawing. we have done our best to glue it back on, but some of it is just gone forever. i mentioned before that mr. block really thought it was important to look out for the little guy. and this is a cartoon that just really brings that truth to bear. you see truth in lending bill being offered to a businessman who holds a whip and so they're simple happy folk. knowledge would just confuse them. this is about consumers, especially poor consumers who don't often have money to pay for goods outright, and so they pay over time. and often pay more than 100% of the original cost of the object by the time they're done paying off. this was done before credit cards were really widely available, so credit would have come directly from the store. not to say that credit card bills -- when they're not paid off promptly, don't lead to paying off more than 100% of the good, but this is about people taking out loans directly from stores and about legislation that made it more transparent about what those char

the newspapers. here you can see one original drawing. as you can see, it's much larger than it's shown in this facsimile of "the washington evening star." this is a cartoon that berryman drew on december 2nd, 1912, welcoming congress back into session after the 1912 elections. >> berryman is most known for his cartoon, 1902 cartoon, drawing the line in mississippi. this is a facsimile of it. the story is president roosevelt in 1902 went down to mississippi to settle a border dispute. while he was there, he was on a hunting trip. it was a several-day hunting trip. the press covered it. but he was unsuccessful. he was not able to find a bear and kill a bear. and so his aides didn't want the president to be embarrassed by not having a successful hunting trip, so one of them tracked down this old bear and sort of incapacitated it and tied it up to a tree and took the president over and said here, president, you can shoot this bear. and the president said, no. i will not shoot that bear. and berryman took the bear in this cartoon here shows ho

you can see the movement of the airplane very well depicted in this drawing. the artifact behind me was also quite an interesting object. this is a piece of fabric from an american pilot's airplane in world war i. you see the insignia, which is the uncle sam hat in a ring. the famous phrase in 1917, when the united states during the war, declared war in april 1917, was that the united states had thrown its hat in the ring. that became the symbol of the first american fighter squadron. the 94th squadron, the hat in the ring squadron. this particular piece was donated a couple of years ago by a gentleman who was in his mid-90's. his father was a mechanic with a the 94th, and took this piece of fabric off a fairly well-known pilot, cook, who had a number of combat victories. he saved that fabric and gave it to his son and had in the family. this is an object that has just emerged. we only have one other example of a hat ring insignia. this one we know exactly where it came from, who had it and what airplane it came from, so it is quite a special one. if you look c

that's the set of drawings that you see. most of the work involves restoring the facade to its original condition. paige and trumbel, i've known them we went with architecture school together. they were hired to do a report on the building back in 2007. they were involved and did the report. as of february last year, they got reinvolved to do the historic struc structure's repot which is what you've seen. we created our set of drawings which consists of a series of plans and detailed set of photographs of the particular conditions. we have notes to each photograph which relate to the recommendses of paige and turnbull. in addition to that, what you haven't seen is we're having paige and turnbull do construction specifications to make sure that for instance, the paint where it's peeling is removed properly. we'll see if there is any original paint under there. everything is restored properly per their spec specs and per our drawings and we're excited about this. it's going to start as soon as possible. my client is eager to be
