waterloo mayor quentin hart spoke at east high school this morning in honor of black history month. the mayor is an east high alum. black history month is so important... he mentioned the pearson sisters.. two east high sisters who fought for change in the education system during the 19-60's... "they believed that change needed to be made in the school system. so they approached the principal. just things, advocating for those things." two dancers performed before mayor hart spoke... he then talked about how he struggled to graduate from college and high school... and how he got to where he is today. one of the key messages in his speech is the younger generation needs to understand that they have a purpose. coming up... a popular restaurant in eastern iowa is shutting its doors for good-- why many people are unhappy with the owner's decision. and, a scary moment as an elephant goes on a rampage during a holy many people clean their dentures with toothpaste or plain water. and even though their dentures look clean, in reality they're not. if a denture were to be put under a microscope, we can see all the bacteria
