heading over to the americas, the eastern seaboard is wintry and the front is producing heavy snow across the central and northern appalachians and heavy cold precipitation across the north eastern states. the system is moving quickly to the northeast so things are getting drier across the eastern u.s. by thursday afternoon, however eastern canada should remain wet throughout thursday. more than 45 centimeters of snow are possible and winds could exceed 100 kilometers per hour. snow will develop over the great lakes, but it's a different story for the rest of the u.s. and canada. a high pressure system will continue to produce nice and dry weather. temperatures are looking like this. we are expecting minus 15 degrees in winnipeg and minus 3 in denver about 10 degrees lower than average and out east, dipping down into the single digits in new york and washington, d.c. finally let's go to europe. it's wet and windy again across most of the countries and a new powerful system is sweeping into the british isles. windy across the northern uk. gusts could top 140 kilometers per hour. the stormy

the eastern shore. what weather in ohio and northwestern pennsylvania. it will get here, but it will take several more hours. after midnight, showers become more likely. for really mild up and down the eastern seaboard, but very cold off to the west. the front in between these two air masses triggering the but weather, that will slide into baltimore tonight and early tomorrow and slowly made its way to the coast on wednesday. 6 in denver right now. contrast that to our 50's here. all the way up to boston, 66 degrees. in the teens right now around amarillo, texas, and in the 30's all the way to el paso. tomorrow, in the transition zone as the wet weather is likely. there's a chance for some wet weather on wednesday. the best chance for rain will be a bit further south. note the cold air coming into the west. as the cold air crosses the mountains and reaches us, some of the western grain could change into light snow. i would not be surprised if we get a burst of snow in the early morning hours thursday. by thursday afternoon, the system is gone, the skies clear, sunny but a lot chillier for the second half of the week. tomorrow will be the last with a warm day in his current pattern. on d-day -- the b

this is left of yesterday's blizzard, as he pulls in the eastern seaboard. this will be a problem in the form of rain and slowing down travel. here's your road travel today. the snow in the mountains and the front ranges. all over the southeast, the eastern half of the nation, getting showers. there's two trouble spots you don't see. look at kansas. they're still cleaning up after the blizzard moved through the area. they had to do snow rescues last night, because folks were stranded, and there's snow on the ground. and fog this morning in chicagoland. we have three-quarters mile visibility. if this fog persists into the morning hour, then we'll definitely have some slowdowns going on there. the big deal, remember we were talking about, there could be a coastal storm moving our way. this looks like it's all of a rainmaker thursday into friday. it will be very heavy rain. in some case, we're talking about two inches of rain toward the atlanta area. so an awful lot of wet roads on the eastern mav of the nation. and a brand-new snowmaker in the west. robin? geor

still wet across the eastern seaboard, but most of the precipitation will be rain rather than snow because of warm air coming in from the gulf of mexico. but in new england and southern quebec, you're seeing snow, but that will change to freezing rain tonight. the system will move northeastward and more of a concern is this low pressure system. it's set to develop over the mississippi valley and could produce gusting winds as well as thunderstorms on thursday. across the west an area of heavy snow southward over the rockies. in denver area, you could be seeing about 20 centimeters of snowfall and winds are a big concern as well. so that could certainly create the risks of avalanche and also dangerous driving conditions. southern california strong santa ana winds are expected to continue into friday afternoon. temperature wise, 17 degrees in los angeles but very chilly in denver, minus 7 with the low of minus 19. but across the east very warm. we're expecting 12 in new york and 16 in d.c. and getting up to 22 in atlanta. finally, let's go over to europe. a front is producing widespread snow

take a look at the eastern seaboard. ey've got a nasty winter storm pounding everywhere, all the way from the florida panhandle through the new england stes. the good news is we only have delays reported out of newark, new jersey. otherwise looking pretty good. we'll fly you back home to the bay area now. what a different scenario here. clear sky overhead. it's the clear sky that makes for a cold start. temperatures this morning below the seasonal averages by five to ten degrees. running very cold. in the 30s in santa rosa and novato. at freezing in livermore and 38 in hayward. tonight i think we'll see some more clouds come in. a little trough of low pressure trying to nudge its way in. that's going to make for a little more mild temperatures, but really not by much. another cold one. dry days continue as high pressure takes the storm track way to our north as we head through the middle of next week towards the later portion of next week. until then we'll stay dry and mild. i hope you enjoy the 60s. that's what we'll see

activity causing the presentation that will strengthen and intensify that system as it moves of the eastern seaboard. that will enhance our rainfall. with cooler air in place give us the change over to snow right around 11:00 p.m. locally. from about 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. in the metro area, that is when we can expect a change over from the rain into the wet snow. but ground temperatures are still very warm, so it will be tough to accumulate anything. it will happen earlier on in the northwest of the metro area. northwest is where we will have the accumulation. one to two inches in parts of northern montgomery county. keep in mind elevation is everything with this snow event tonight. the higher york the more snow you're going to get. kind of like that snowstorm right before halloween. elevation is critical. along the blue ridge, and to even 7 inches of snow at 1,500 feet or higher. damascus 800 + feet, you could see 3 inches to four inches. keep that in mind. elevation really counts. sonny tomorrow mid-40s. looking good into the weekend. >> we will see you in a little bit. coming up, the tarmac dus

we were concerned about some delays in air travel because of the winds around the eastern seaboards but they have since subsided. so now what we are watching is this next low pressure system coming through as a very quick clipper system and saved primarily to the north and keeping many of the chilly winds to the north going through tomorrow and there are two systems moving through and you can follow them with the line of precipitation and the clipper system will move to the great lakes and another system that will catch up as we move to the weekend. what that means is that they both stay primarily to the north and will stay in the mild air which means the temperatures stay at or above the normal high and will be up in the 50s because most of the systems are going to stay. the ripples of energy far to the north and could create a the lake-effect snow but not precipitation so for new year's eve in the tranquil range for saturday night. with the sunrise at 7:26 and tonight going down to 24 degrees and partly cloudy and breezy and colder than the last few nights. tomorrow 44 degrees and fol
