the wharf located on the embarcadero promenade is a new public space over the water and parallel to the embarcadero promenade. the wharf replaces piers 34 and 36 and a new public space defining the center of the neighborhood. for a bit of history in the year 2000 bcdc working with the port amended the area plan. changes made to this plan and the port's water front use plan removed the long standing 50% fill replacement rule which prevented redevelopment of the historic ports and sheds. with adoption of these projects projects as piers one and one and a half to five and the exploratorium were able to move forward and with that plan the port agreed to construct two public spaces along the waterfront, the plaza which is the new public space which will begin construction in november in front of the cruise terminal at pier 27 and the brannan street wharf and describes the projects in detail by sizes and uses and the port agreed to construct these spaces in a 20 year period. the port began working with bcdc staff and a 23 member citizen advisory committee and had workshops and meetings and co

we have improved the crosswalk in front of the exploratorium on the embarcadero on green tv an area that was a very arched turn and speed could provide a dangerous path of travel for those crossing the street the muni erline from the cal train station to fisherman's wharf. this was a pilot project during the event. this is an accessible historic streetcar and the mini platforms, along the embarcadero are often chained off and those chains will come down to access the historic streetcars in the summer and we have changed some of the signal timing and some of the streetcars themselves to make that happen. and also bike sharing, something that we have been talking for a long time. where you can check out a bicycle, like a library book for a half an hour, an hour or a day and return it to a different location and use it to get about town k. we have made some enhancements to the transit system, the e-line, the finish line that we just discussed. and another one from the marina green area to market street and market to pier 27-29 shuttle to follow the f-line tracks, all accessible muni vehicle

caltrain to the wharf, will it go all along the embarcadero to pier 39 or whatever the last one is? >> yes, it will. so currently there are historic streetcars that go from market to the north or from market to the south. so this will be the one that will actually combine the two. we have had calls for this from various constituencies for some time now. and this is our chance to pilot it during the events. so mta has been putting into service some of the double-ended historic streetcars that can operate in both directions without a full-loop turnaround. >> now will those be running just during the event, during the america's cup event or will pilot hours be for other parts of the day or other times? >> it's currently scheduled to be piloted during the events. though, you know, as i mentioned with positive legacy, if there is a demand for that type of service, that can justify the expense of putting it into service, that is what we want to test going forward. so if there is a constituency that would look to use that longer term, we would look to meet that demand. >> my other question

signs are lit up along the embarcadero giving information of available parking garages and the number of open spaces. usually the signs are used to update drives of traffic opposite embarcadero or to post giants game update. leyla gulen is checking the traffic indicators. hopefully not seeing any red just yet. >> we are, kristen. i will show you where. red on a couple of accounts, with lots of brake lights because of a car fire, westbound 580 at not flynn road we are down to 25 miles per hour, and 11 miles per hour in some places. that is taking on a few extra minutes if you are headed out of tracy to dublin and 30 minutes from the westbound direction. the bridges an the bay area show the toll plaza with cash-paying lanes loading up. eight minutes gets you from the maze to san francisco. it is quite good at this hour. the golden gate bridge shows four short minutes to head out of sausalito to san francisco and a little bit of fog blanketing the area there, use the low beams, not the high beams and san mateo is quite clear and wide open, as well. the move from hayward to foster city is

the embarcadero sidewalk and the surface parking lot across from piers here and the exploratorium and the ferry plaza, the gap plaza which is across from rincon park and bordered by steward and howard streets, the embarcadero sidewalk across from brannan street and pier 30/32 and the entry to pier 40. these locations were selected because they're near job centers or a transportation hub and areas in the dedicated . for this program the port has a operator with bike share operator-- the next part may have a fee based on the bike share program. pricing. because there are concerns raised on the impact of bike share and the impact on rentals the port included a non compete clause in the agreement which prohibits alta bike share from doing this. as you can see the pricing structure is two tiered. it includes a membership fee and usage fee. the first half-hour is free and the then the rest has a fee and maximum up to $250. in comparison an all day bike rental age is 14 to $32 a day and a bike share bike would cost $55 for four hours so there is a clear price difference and the pricing is in

now if san francisco the lights are back on for everyone except a handful of customers along the embarcadero after a transformer blew out this morning. officers spent the morning directing traffic while pg&e fixed the problem with the embarcadero and harrisons and spear streets and lights initially went out in all directions at 6:45 and one resident says he was watching tv when all of a sudden he saw a bright flash. >> i was watching the tour de france and i saw a green flashlight a lightning bolt and we heard a loud "boom" and all the power was out and no more tv, no more refrigerator or lights. >> right now, pg&e says just three customers don't have power, crews are working to get their lights back on right now. >> new this morning the controversial drakes bay oyster company will be allowed to stay home for now with marin county superior court allowing the oyster farm to remain open while the permit is under review but it must clean up the operation. the california coastal commission sued to drakes claiming they were not following environmental regulations. >> developing news, oakland poli

the first one that comes to mind is the embarcadero promenade and probably the most developed piece of the continuity and a public place but meets the maritime uses whether unloading to take passengers on a cruise ship or crossing it with some of the industrial and cargo uses but a successful and loved space within the city and about 3-miles in length. i'm going to move quickly through these. the jefferson street project which was opened a couple of weeks ago and of course fisherman's wharf and looks very successful and predict from last night and getting praise. we opened the promenade here and a project funded by the 2008 general obligation bond and successful and enjoys the best views of alcatraz from anywhere around and the ferry arch. one that is up and coming that will start construction in november what is known as the plaza in front of the cruise terminal a 2-acre addition out there. this will accomplish many things. one will allow non cruise passengers to enjoy a cruise experience in the city as ships pull up to the space and servesace the court to the cruise terminal building

obviously the public has -- as monique pointed out earlier and there is attention to the embarcadero in the recent years and the thing that we learned in terms of actual land use uses and the right mixes and urban design do what i said and connect the neighborhoods to the water in a seamless way. all of these were called out in principle in the plan and the neighborhood plan and the work we're doing today is about implementing those so i wanted to mention a few things and talk about where we're going today in the next few months. i just want to point out urban waterfronts around the country and world are really being reimagined. many great cities are doing what we're doing today and there is amazing creative work going out out there now. this also plays a major role in the city has a multi-faceted economic base and there is an interesting question. we struggled with the eastern neighborhood planning work and much of the work is focused on the city that was zoned for industrial uses and we were really tossed around a lot to be frank from both sides of that argument from those that beli
