first, again, i want to thank the incredible community of city college, its students, the faculty, aft 21 21, all of the community members who have rallied behind this cause. i do think that with challenge comes opportunity and this has been an opportunity to remind people what we as san franciscans are about. we in san francisco are very lucky to live in this very special place that has many wonderful things going. but there are challenges that we're facing and perhaps the biggest challenge facing not only our city, but the country is the fact that there is a growing inequality. san francisco right now is facing an affordability crisis and we actually have the second highest inequality of any major city in the united states. and, in fact, the inequality in san francisco is growing at a fastest rate than any other city in the country. for my own personal experience, i can tell you that education is the great equalizer and we cannot close that inequality, we cannot close that disparity without city college remaining what it has been to san francisco.
