and across the potomac into loudoun county, and fairfax, and along the blue ridge, it's only in the low 40s. closer to washington, mid-40s, and arlington and much of fairfax and southern maryland, in the 40s to near 50 degrees. around midnight we were in the low 50s and near 60s, so quite a drop in the last 11 hours. we're seeing clouds increasing, and southern west virginia has a few sprinkles. there's a few sprinkles come into culpepper county and further south and west of there, and that might move into the southern suburbs over the next few hours, but not a rain chance will arrive until this evening. let's go forward as we get into the evening hours, we might have a few wet snowflakes here mixing across virginia. on saturday, we will have sun in the morning and then during the afternoon we will have a few clouds roll back in again, and we will have a quick disturbance from the north and west on sunday morning, and this area of lavender and white, that's a zone of potential flurries, quick snow flurries around dawn on sunday, and then the rest of sunday we will get sunshine back. we

this person was on the eighth floor and we're toll just before 10:00 fairfax county police were watching from a distance and this happened on the other side of the building. they watched this man as he climbed from his eighth floor balcony down to the apartment below where police were waiting and grabbed him. he was unarmed and we can show you videotape now. they handcuffed him, put him on a stretcher. he was in this ambulance leaving to go get evaluated. you'll see in a moment here some of the people, this is the lobby of this community here. there were dozens and dozens of people cheering on the firefighters and s.w.a.t. team members with the robot that they had sent up on the elevator to the eighth floor when this thing all wrapped up. this happened in the south tower high rise apartment community around 4:15 this afternoon. the man was apparently on the phone with his counselor, made some suicidal threats, said he had a gun and that's when this whole thing started. across the way northern virginia community college's alexandria campus was on lockdown a while. we spoke to a man who li

. >>> later today, the fairfax county school board is expected to approve the use of surveillance cameras in high schools. they would be installed in the common areas and in the cafeterias. principals at 27 of the county's high schools are in favor of the cameras. they made the request after a huge food fight. actually two of them last year where school administrators were unable to identify the students who they were trying to figure out who was responsible for starting the fights. according to "the washington examiner," in an article there, 80% of high school ptas also support the move. >>> a fight is brewing between arlington county lawmakers and residents. the arlington county board has unanimously agreed to purchase a building near the courthouse metro and turn it into a homeless shelter. but residents say the shelter will hurt property values and introduce safety concerns into the community. the force. six in fairfax county. o for us, the challenges of those jobs. >> being a police chief is a tough job. it's long hours. you've got a lot of people who make demands on you. people are not shy about telling you how you should do your job. >> right. >> and all of those come with the job. i wouldn't paebl to be a police officer for 35 years if i didn't enjoy working with the department. virginia is a right to work state. so there was not a union in father fax. collective bargaining and an important part of my job now. it makes a difference in terms of making decisions. you have to have a different strategy to accomplish things. crime-wise, similar crime rates with regard to homicides. you i will tell you we have three times as many burglaries in montgomery as they have in fairfax. fairfax has a little more than a million skpef a little less. they have almost 1400 police officers. and i think that does mac a pit of a stpbs especially when you try to attack things like burglaries. so we try to target our resources
