and what happened with the farm bill and what might happen this week. >> the farm bill came up and is universally opposed by democrats because of the changes it makes to the supplemental nutrition program. it adds requirements for able-bodied adults to qualify. they were basically cutting food stamps. some moderates suppose the work requirement issue voted against it and the other half you had a little more than a dozen conservatives opposing it to make a point about immigration leadership was worried about that so conservatives were trying to bring the -- to the floor so they voted against it. >> where is the senate in this process? >> i believe they have marked it and will vote on it before the july 4 recess. ariel this week or late next week. the motion to reconsider was moved to friday. if they pass they vote on the bill it will be enough for the conservatives to vote on the farm bill on friday. as long as the immigration stuff goes through. >> in the house has been working on many opioid -related bills and will continue to do so. what has the president said about their priority a

wasn't this just an effort to stall the discharge petition so you won't imperil the farm bill? the farm bill went down because this issue of immigration was not resolved in your conference? speaker ryan: this is to bring our caucus together on immigration. i'm very pleased with our members. what happened was our members got together, spoke with one another, and compromised with each other so we can find a way forward without exercising a discharge petition which mean we would never make law. now we have a chance at making law and solving this problem. and members wanted to have votes on their issues. there are members that wanted to have a vote on the goodlatte-mccaul bill. they will get mad. billw have a compromise that will be brought to the floor so members can vote on legislation tackling this issue. this has a chance going into law. like i said before, last thing i want to do is bring a bill out of here that i know the president won't support. we have been working hand in glove with the administration on this to make sure we're bringing a bill that represents the president'
