i came here today to voice support for the giants mission rock project. 20-plus years ago i stood in front of this commission and voiced support for the visions the giants had of building a waterfront ballpark at 3rd and king, which would gri people together from all walks of life, the community, if you will. throughout that, the giants work with everyone to build a mag a magnificent facility that everyone is proud of, and led to a transformation of an area that was until then a depressive urban blight. it became a desirable area to live and work. san francisco is a city known for diverse neighborhoods, each unique and full of life with a real sense of community. people flock to these neighborhoods in search of something novel and different, yet despite all that has developed, nine months out of the year, our area becomes a virtual ghost town. mission bay and south baesh with are called ballpark neighborhoods. [ inaudible ] in fact, this project will draw people to our area seeking novelty and seeking something different: small businesses. it will bring new friendships and relationshi

so i would like to ask the giants, as the developers, because i think after conversations with the giants through the representative roszko mats that they recognize also that they also want to build really strong community and it is their intention actually to build really strong communities and would love to partner with the san francisco unified school district in making the school a reality for the parents at mission rock and the community already there at mission bay. and looking and setting an example for all the developers in the central soma plan to be collaborating with the san francisco unified school district to curate a really strong educational experience for the families that are living there. so i just have a question actually for jack baird, that when we looked at the gap that the san francisco unified school district has, and you know, jane kim, myself and supervisor norman yee, we know about the school district and how underfunded it is, this is not something they anticipated, to have to build new schools in such expedited manner. would you be willing to assist them with

since the rfp, the giants commitment to the project has not waferrers. we appreciate the perspective as an existing and successful port tenant and neighbor of the site who brought that together with their vision. we appreciate their ability to stick with the project over its long development period and in particular their success in seeking vote era approval when that requirement was established midstream. we at the port also appreciate the array of public benefits that have been negotiated with the help of the office of economic and workforce development and many other city agency that's participated in this transaction over the years. now, when we have the opportunity to take a step back and look at the entire package, we at the port feel very optimistic about this project on several levels. what it will deliver to the people who live, work, and visit here once it is built, the improved waterfront that will benefit port property in the mission bay area that continues to grow around the site, and the benefit to the port's financial position as it looks
