the city and to the public. so, in addition to being a fine, fine mayor in the 1800s, he is also was known to be not only a great philantropist what who donated a good portion of his wealth to the city. of course he was one of the first practicing men of jewish faith and so he did that as well while he was mayor. all of this as part of the great history of san francisco, one that we honor and if we could bring a theme for philantropy for anybody who owns one 12th of anything here in san francisco and it would be a great accomplishment. this is what mayor sutro brought to our city and i am so happy that leo has made this presentation with our artists. and jonna and hendrikson. you are hiding someplace, i hear that you are shy. has been agreed on very strongly, and that is that we must have our first responders living in the great city of san francisco. our police officers, our firefighters, our sheriffs, to people that we look to to depend on the first critical hours when an event hits our city. we want them here. but also on a nonevent basis. i happen to live next door to somebody who is a member of nert, the neighborhood emergency response teams. and he is so proud of being able to be trained in our neighborhood in glenn park. by firefighters who know what they're doing, and just having that presence there in our neighborhood makes our neighborhoods feel stronger, feel confident that government is there with them and for them, and that the people who work in this city are there with them in case anything were to happen. that's the feeling that i think is represented by the launch of this program. and, so, the officers standing to the side and behind me, not only am i proud of the work that you all do on a daily basis, but we want you here all the time, 24/7. we want to live next door to the people who are caring

the data sets we use. most people still don't know they exist despite great efforts from the city and others. and, you know, a lot of entrepreneurs that we're looking for is the way to get leverage, a way to build an experience or build a product before we have 100,000 users using it. open data is the key way to do that. you can start out with this experience, very lively and robust with very few users. and then when the first users come in, there is actually something for them to do and see. and i think that you'll start to see as the data sets get more robust and a little bit better and hopefully as we get to improve them ourselves and put them back into the public domain, the innovation that comes off with them is just going to grow exponentially. >> this seems like a really important moment. the world of civic innovation until now has really been focused on sort of open public data and the private data world has been separate. the fact that the city realizes that it is private data that adds to that and provides so much more richness because it is information as motion loft tells us where

. >> folks, i have two more speakers to welcome you all and the last one will be the mayor of our great city, but before i bring him up, i wanted our senior military in the bay area to say a few remarks because the us coast guard provides and enables the safety conditions for us to be able to have fleet week. it's such an important part of fleet week, what the coast guard provides, so i'd like to bring up to the lecturn here vice admiral -- we call him admiral z because i have a hard time pronouncing his name, but he is now the commander of all the coast guard in the pacific, so admiral z >> mike, thank you very much and good morning, everybody. just to follow on admiral beeman's remarks, this is really all about building partnerships. and i'll go back to when i was the federal on scene coordinator for the deep water horizon oil spill with 50,000 responders, many of them military, but also faith-based. we had 35 federally recognized tribes, we had perish presidents that all have an equal voice and when you have any response this is also reality tv reality tv will try to triangulate against t

city. and, so, what motivated me in the past has always been about making sure that i wasn't the only one that had an incredible opportunity to participate in the city, to have a greate in the city. i felt like there were too many of my peers that should have had this same opportunity. and, so, it's a big reason why i decided to participate in politics. >> you mentioned you were the executive director of the african-american arts and culture complex. how has that experience as well as the experience of serving on two commissions prepared you for the board of supervisors? >> well, i did serve on the san francisco redevelopment agency commission and the fire commission and i was really fortunate to run this great center. and all of those experiences, running a nonprofit, being on a commission, working for the city, responding to constituents, doing the kind of things many folks are doing every single day to make our city better -- i mean, i don't see a better preparation than that for becoming a city supervisor. the nonprofit world is a very challenging community to work in because of the fund-raising involved, because of the need for such great programs. so, to be in

great day for the health of san francisco. this is a great day for the future health of our city. i'm so delighted to be here. and let me also say that it was about a year ago that a couple of us at the board, including supervisor cohen, we held a very different press conference over on the board side and i am just amazed and so grateful that we have come as far as we have gotten to where we are today. it takes a village to build two hospitals and i want to take just a brief moment to thank everyone who has been part of that village starting first and foremost with the community. the leadership behind the elected leaders here who ensured that this is a deal that's not only good for health care, but ensures that we are meeting our local hiring needs, our housing needs, our transportation needs, our neighborhood needs around the city. and, of course, i want to thank family of labor, both from the trades as well as our health care workers and our nurses who are very instrumental in making sure we get to the right deal. shout out, of course, to the entire lee administration starting with mayor lee, but i want to

the feeling of being in a rain forest. mount davidson is also a great place to escape the noise and the bustle of the city. take the 36 bus and it will drop you at the entrance. it is quite a hike to the top but the view is worth every step. this is the place to bring that someone special. golden gate park's largest body of water is an enchanting place. is a popular spot for paddling around in boats, which can be rented. created in 1893, it was designed for these your boating -- for leisure boating. it is named for the wild strawberries that once flourished. there is also a waterfall, two bridges, and trails the climb to the summit, the highest point at more than four hundred feet. you can catch glimpses of the western side of the city that make this hilltop a romantic look out. for public transit, i take the n train. the lad the ad -- lake is ada accessible. watch many ducks, swans, and siegel's. -- seagulls. it is a great place to stroll and sail away. many couples come here to take a ride around a lake, going under the bridges, passing the chinese pavilion and the waterfall. for a quiet getaway, making
