sweeping changes to the iowa city landfill are likely on the way in iowa city. the goal is to increase recycling. the firs apartment buildings to provide recycling services to tenants. that means all apartment buildings in iowa city would have to have more than just dumpsters out back, they'd need to find a way to allow tenants to recycle, so they wouldn't have to take their recyclables to outside services - like can collection sites.the next part of the ordinance would create a curbsite recycling program for food waste -- officials believe that could keep an estimated 500 year. and a third part of this plan - would prohibit people from throwing tv's and computer monitors into the landfill. and here in iowa city there is a lot of that going on with so many college students coming and going. officials believe that could keep an estimated 360 tons of waste out of the

the election. coming up tonight at six... hear why one eastern iowa county auditor calls the rumors of a rigged election an insult. one iowa city school is getting food in the hands of students in need. elizabeth tate alternative high school in iowa city started a school food pantry program today. average percentage of students who received a free and reduced lunch rate. tate's rate is about 64 percent. this is compared to about 35 and half percent at the iowa city school district level. kcrg t-v nine's iowa city bureau chief mark carlson shows us how this food pantry program works. what they've done here at tate high school is put a food pantry inside thes supervisors were heavily involved with this, as was the crisis center of johnson county. the supervisors put forward 12-thousand dollars to get this off the ground. one supervisor says he's looking forward to seeing how it all works. "we are going to be able to add recycling to over 10000 households in the city of iowa city... multi-family units are finally going to get recycling, we're looking to divert over 17- hundred tons from the landfill into recycling about this change. the u-s mainland. new this morning, neighbors are now suing to stop a home modeled after kinnick stadium with plans to go up in iowa city. the manville heights association filed a lawsuit wednesday against the iowa city board of adjustment. e the house last week after several weeks of debate. a decorah couple wants to build the home on lusk avenue. neighbors worried it will become a party house and are trying to block it. they argue the plans do not fit a single family home. the lawsuit asks a judge to issue an injunction and rescind the building permit. an increase in complaints about panhandling in cedar rapids is prompting a proposal. city council member scott olson estimates the number of panhandlers and complaints because the city does not have an ordinance prohibiting it. that's why he's working on one that would limit the places people can panhandle.
