on that list, the john kennedy inaugural stands three. these are two speeches delivered within 65 hours of one another. the confluence of the greatest inaugural of the 20th century and perhaps the greatest farewell address ever given by an american president draws attention to the significance of this transition. what the transition was the personal wartime leadership yielding the reins of power, there's a generational shift that happens in 1961. the other thing that is significant that occurs in the wake of perhaps the closest election of the 20th century. and it is an election that produced a 50/50 split and i think the dignity of these two statements, the kennedy inaugural and eisenhower farewell, the quality of the expression in these two speeches are worthy of a democratic transition. we were able to overcome a great divide in that period and find a way forward during that transition. a very successful transition. and is a nostalgic speech because of the pre-eminence of the united states that the eisenhower farewell address presumes.
