the east bay regional park district closed the popular lake yesterday. exposure to toxic algae can cause rashes, skin or eye irritation and can make you sick. the toxins can be deadly to dogs. this is the fourth year in a row park officials were forced to close the lake because of the toxic algae outbreak. (darya) now park officials will treat the water. the lake will not reopen until tests show it is safe, which could be weeks. the lake was closed much much last summer because of the same problem. locals say last summer it covered the whole lake and smelled horrible. they hoped this summer would be different. >> i was surprised to see the signs when i came out the other day. just last week i saw people swimming there were lifeguards. >> reporter: you can't swim here but you are allowed to fish. a warning said if you plan to eat the fish throw away the guts and clean with tap or bottomed water. this is the second lake that's closed this year because of a toxic bloom. same thing affected that lake last year as well. if you are looking for a place to swim you need to check the park's website first to see if it's safe. my personal favorite is in livermore. in oakland. >>> seasonal flu vaccine could be in the form of a band-aid instead of a needle soon. a patch would have dissolvable needles that puncture the top layer of the skin instead of the way of the traditional needle. people who tried it say there is no pain. the yetors believe the release of the patch would lead more people

the lake was closed. much of last sum ebecause of this same algae. since this is the freshwater the algae is a natural occurring but it's bacteria can turn toxic in the water. if you accidentally ingest it'll cause vomiting, nausea and otherl pros. you can't let your dogs near it because it can kill them. this is the second park in the bay area that has this alge and its been closed. the one park in fremont. cory lake. that closed back on february 8th because of the same algae. that was closed for most of the summer. if you -- are hoping to get in at some point we aren't sure when the park will be back open. they have to do more tests on the water to make sure that the algae level goes down. until then the water park -- water part of the park will be closed. >> thank you. >>> the sacramento county sheriff deputy is in the house after being shot in the face. that deputy was on patrol at a light-rail station where he started talking to a man on the train platform. that conversation escalated into a fight and the deputy was shot. the suspect ran away but
